Camosun College is seeking a Dean for the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Camosun’s STEM school offers a variety of science, computer and engineering technology programs, including certificates, diplomas, university bridge programs and university transfer courses.

Camosun College is located in Victoria B.C., on the territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Kosapsum) and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples

The college welcomed its first students in 1971 and adopted the name “Camosun”, a local Lekwungen (Songhees) First Nation name meaning “where different waters meet and are transformed.” Today, Camosun College offers over 160 innovative programs to help meet the needs of students and communities in Victoria and beyond.

Education offerings at Camosun include university transfer and applied degree programs; career and trades training; upgrading and preparatory programs; and professional studies and industry training. Job Summary
The Dean is the senior academic leader within a school and is responsible for the overall operations and development of a school consistent with the college’s strategic and education plans. The Dean is committed to the provision of quality educational programs and student success and support.

A key role of the Dean is to model the college’s values, and to provide leadership in strategic planning, and in establishing goals and priorities for the school.

As a senior administrator the Dean is as a member of the Provost Council and the Senior Leadership Council.

Reporting Relationships
The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice-President, Education and Innovation.
Reporting directly to the Dean are:
• Associate-Dean
• Chairs and Faculty
• Assistant to the Dean
• Administrative Coordinator

Essential job functions
Leadership and planning
• Inspires a school vision and facilitates the setting of goals; encourages organizational growth and leads change
• Leads the development of school strategic, operational and resource planning; participates in college strategic and operational planning
• Develops a culture of trust, respect, empowerment, creativity, innovation and intelligent risk taking for faculty, staff and students
• Actively communicates with school faculty and staff to ensure they are informed of school, community and college issues, developments etc.
• Keeps senior leadership advised of school initiatives and developments which may require coordination and support from across the college
• Mentors and supports the Associate Dean, delegates responsibilities and tasks the Associate Dean
• The Dean may represent or act as the Vice President as required and undertakes initiatives as assigned by the Vice President

Program delivery and student success
• In collaboration with the Vice-President ensures that the school identifies and pursues new program opportunities
• In collaboration with Associate Dean and chairs leads program reviews and supports resulting curriculum renewal processes
• Engages faculty in opportunities for innovation and pursuit of new teaching and learning approaches and practices
• Monitors enrollment and retention of students, and in consultation with the Registrar develops strategies to enhance enrollment and retention
• Analyzes enrollment trends and other data to inform decision making and planning
• With the Associate Dean oversees workload allocation and preparation of schedules
• Engages faculty in opportunities for innovation and pursuit of new teaching and learning opportunities
• Participates in the development of college policy and process related to student development and success
• Responsible for addressing student appeals and administering student related policies and procedures
• Oversees compliance with provincial and national accreditation and other standards
• Champions an inclusive, welcoming and accessible learning environment

Relationships
• Establishes and coordinates program advisory councils with industry, business, social and health care agencies
• Works with community partners to further the college’s mandate and the school’s interest
• Works towards and supports the college’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenization
• Participates on provincial and national committees related to post-secondary education

School administration
• Responsible and accountable for budgeting and financial management within the school for equipment, staffing and facilities
• Leads overall budget planning and development for the school; represents the school in college budget development
• Responsible for administering collective agreements and implementing of college human resource policy, process and practices
• Provides leadership in recruitment, selection, orientation, coaching and mentoring, supervision and succession planning of school faculty and staff
• Ensures appropriate performance management and review processes are undertaken
• Encourages and supports development opportunities for faculty and staff; in collaboration with the Associate Dean and chairs reviews approves faculty scheduled development plans

Recruitment Range: $134,660 to $179,546 per year - Starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity. Performance Range: Salary may be up to a maximum of $206,478, which is obtainable through annual performance increases. CDN / Year
