As an Instructor, Cybersecurity, you will play a vital role in preparing students for careers in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity. Reporting to the Chairperson, you will deliver engaging, hands-on instruction, maintain and develop curriculum, evaluate student performance, and provide academic support and advising. You will contribute to student recruitment and retention, support work-integrated learning and student placement opportunities, and maintain strong connections with industry to ensure program content reflects current cybersecurity practices and technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Instruct students in classroom, computer lab, and specialized cybersecurity lab environments, providing academic assistance and technical guidance.
* Deliver engaging, practical learning experiences that develop students’ cybersecurity knowledge, technical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
* Maintain and modify course objectives, course outlines, curricula, learning activities, and evaluation procedures to reflect current industry standards and emerging cybersecurity practices.
* Prepare, organize, and maintain course materials, laboratory exercises, simulations, and other learning resources.
* Maintain all course-related records, including attendance, evaluations, grades, and other required documentation, and submit information within established timelines.
* Incorporate current cybersecurity tools, technologies, threats, and industry practices into classroom and laboratory instruction.
* Support students through academic advising, mentoring, classroom management, assessment, and evaluation.
* Share current industry knowledge and practical cybersecurity experience with students to help prepare them for employment and further education.
* Support student recruitment, retention, work-integrated learning, student placement, and other program activities as required.
* Develop and maintain positive relationships with employers, industry partners, and professional organizations to support curriculum relevance and student employment opportunities.
* Participate in program and curriculum development, departmental activities, and college initiatives, including Indigenization and decolonization of curriculum.
Qualifications:
* Relevant post-secondary education in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Information Security, or a related field, combined with significant industry experience that enables you to effectively provide instruction in one or more areas of cybersecurity.
* Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in areas such as cybersecurity operations, network security, information security, security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, ethical hacking, digital forensics, or related disciplines.
* Current knowledge of cybersecurity technologies, tools, standards, and industry practices.
* Experience with cybersecurity platforms, tools, and/or lab environments used to support hands-on technical training.
* Relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, Network+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, or other recognized cybersecurity certifications would be considered an asset.
* Experience teaching in an adult learning environment is highly desirable.
* Experience teaching and using Moodle or other learning management systems is an asset.
* Solid understanding of program and curriculum development, Indigenization and decolonization of curriculum, classroom and laboratory instruction, assessment and evaluation, student advising, and group facilitation.
* Highly developed communication skills, with strong organizational, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
* Experience working with newcomer and/or EAL (English as an Additional Language) individuals is considered an asset.
* Experience working with diverse learners and creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment is considered an asset.
