Position Title: Associate Dean, Pathways

Status: FT Admin

Hours: 37.5 hours

Faculty/Department: Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Innovative Learning

Campus/Location: North Campus

What you will do: 

Reporting to the Senior Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Innovative Learning (FLA), the Associate Dean, Pathways works collaboratively with the Senior Dean and other members of the administration of FLA in the development and implementation of the Faculty’s strategic initiatives as part of the college’s strategic and academic plans, specifically pertaining to access and pathways programming.

The Associate Dean provides academic and administrative leadership, supervision and direction to the faculty, managers, support staff and students of the Faculty, in the programs included in their portfolio: General Arts and Sciences, Dual Credit/SCWI, and Academic Upgrading.

The incumbent ensures that the objectives of the programs are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning. The Associate Dean facilitates the on-going development, review and renewal of programs to reflect current and future market changes, the employment needs of industry, and innovation and partnerships for the areas under their leadership. The Associate Dean also supports in a variety of capacities the development of applied research initiatives.

The Associate Dean participates in the development and implementation of Faculty-based academic and student success initiatives such as student recruitment and retention, strategic enrolment management, problem-solving and appeals processes, job placement initiatives and transformational leadership.

In collaboration with the Senior Dean, the Associate Dean liaises with internal and external stakeholders and participates in meetings and committees as appropriate to support their portfolio and the strategic goals of the Faculty and College.

The incumbent is the primary liaison with the Council of Directors of Education (CODE), on all matters concerning School College Work Initiatives (SCWI), on behalf of the College ensuring the quality design and delivery of all Dual Credit, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship and Progam within College programs. The incumbent also co-chairs the Connecting GTA Teachers, Regional Planning Team, which includes overseeing all programs, activities of the group and administering the budget for this team.

The incumbent is also the primary liaison with the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development for the Academic Upgrading (AU) program, and is responsible for the planning, organizing, and administration of the operations and services offered in Academic Upgrading, including the Academic Upgrading Program, ACE Certificate and AU Certificate of Completion, the apprenticeship math support workshops and special projects with internal and external partners. The incumbent is responsible for the AU budget and budget development process. The incumbent also oversees curriculum development and renewal as well as the enrolment, recruitment and marketing of the AU programs and services in compliance with Ministry of Labour, Training & Skills Development procedures, targets and reporting requirements.

Connaissances et compétences

What you bring to the role: 

Education

A Master's Degree in a relevant field.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years experience in curriculum development, marketing, public speaking, budgeting and human resources manager.

  • Curriculum Development:
    • Experience in fostering excellence in teaching and/or counselling at an established and well-recognized educational institution;
    • Demonstrated competence in advanced level college curriculum development, program and schedule planning and evaluation;
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and work experience in fields relevant to the Faculty programming;
    • Knowledge of broader social, employment and economic context as it relates to existing and potential course offerings of the Faculty;
    • Demonstrated commitment to interprofessional education and collaboration within the Faculty and the College community.
  • Human Resources, Finances, Operations and Marketing:
    • Demonstrated responsible administrative or leadership experience at the post-secondary /  college level for purposes of developing and managing budgets, administration of policies and procedures and management of human resources;
    • Consensus-building skills; ability to promote excellent working relationships with both academic and non-academic staff and demonstrated ability in conflict resolution;
    • Excellent listening skills, verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate and negotiate with people is essential;
    • Computer literacy essential; experience with software to support teaching, research and administrative activities;
    • Demonstrated advocacy for the professions associated with their portfolio and awareness of the professional landscape locally, nationally and internationally.
