Description

The School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Creative Arts are dynamic and complex Schools contributing to the comprehensive mix of programming RDC offers its learners. These Schools offer a range of credentials including diplomas, university transfer programs, collaborative degrees, and applied degrees. As Red Deer College transitions to Red Deer University, the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Creative Arts will have exciting opportunities to offer new credentials to our existing and future learners.

As part of an institutional restructure, the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Creative Arts have recently been brought together under a single administrative structure, led by the Dean, School of Arts & Sciences and School of Creative Arts. This umbrella administrative structure will include two Associate Deans, an Operations Manager, Advising & Recruiting staff, and various other administrative support roles. The School of Arts & Sciences and School of Creative Arts Associate Deans are responsible for providing academic and operational leadership for the programs and faculty within areas of the Schools as assigned by the Dean. The division of responsibilities between the Associate Deans is currently under review and will be subject to consideration of the background and skills of the successful applicant. Applications are encouraged from individuals with backgrounds relevant to any area within the School of Arts and Sciences and School of Creative Arts.

Through such initiatives and an abiding focus on excellence in teaching and learning, the faculty, students, and staff of the School of Arts & Sciences and School of Creative Arts advance the mission of Red Deer College to strengthen and enrich the intellectual, economic, cultural and social development of Central Alberta.

 

Connaissances et compétences

  • Earned doctorate from a recognized institution with at least one graduate degree in a discipline relevant to the School of Arts and Sciences
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful post-secondary teaching experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years of academic leadership experience
  • Experience in program development and renewal
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and scholarly activity
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a learner-centred culture
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, written, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, critique and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with different groups within an organization
  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to meet project deadlines and goals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progressively responsible academic leadership experience involving direct supervision of faculty (including recruitment and selection, development and coaching, performance assessment and management)
  • Experience in budget management

Tâches et responsabilités

Between these two Schools there are approximately 60 full-time faculty members, in addition to approximately 55 sessional and part-time faculty members. There are over 1,900 students enrolled in programs in these Schools, with over 1,500 course sections offered and almost 18,000 individual course registrations.

The School of Creative Arts includes the following programs:

  • Visual Arts Diploma
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts, University Transfer
  • Bachelor of Applied Arts – Animation and Visual Effects
  • Bachelor of Applied Arts – Film, Theatre, and Live Entertainment
  • Bachelor of Applied Arts – Motion Picture Arts
