Reporting to the College Librarian and Director, Learning Resources & Records Management, the Associate Director provides day-to-day and strategic leadership for the Library and Learning Centre through their oversight and engagement of Learning Resources staff supervisors. Working collaboratively with campus partners, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the integrated provision, and ongoing evaluation and benchmarking, of excellent services across the Learning Resources portfolio and providing leadership and direction for strategic initiatives and special projects within it. In their delegated role as Copyright Officer, provides expertise and leadership for copyright education, awareness, and compliance initiatives for the Douglas College community.
The Associate Director, Learning Resources will have:
· Established professional credibility as evidenced by a Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution, or related field from an accredited post-secondary institution;
· Advanced knowledge in Canadian copyright legislation and related issues, with experience in copyright compliance
· A minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a similar position providing library, learning centre, and/or copyright support services in a post-secondary context; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
· A minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership and administrative experience in a post-secondary or relevant setting;
· Excellent people management skills;
· Understanding of service and program assessment and evaluation in a post-secondary context;
· Experience successfully managing assessment projects, ideally in a higher education setting;
· Experience collating, reviewing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data;
· Demonstrated success in handling highly sensitive issues in complex environments, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and objectivity;
· Demonstrated use of discretion, confidentiality, sound judgment, sensitivity, and critical thinking;
· Proven capacity to manage change and a demonstrated ability to drive innovations from conception through to implementation;
· Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills that are adapted based on the intended audience/stakeholder group;
· Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse, multidisciplinary team dedicated to problem solving and conflict resolution;

Under the general direction of the College Librarian and Director, Learning Resources & Records Management, the Associate Director, Learning Resources is responsible for a portfolio of work within the following areas:
· Ensuring the delivery of Learning Resources services are consistent with the College’s strategic direction and meet the anticipated needs of current and future students, faculty, and staff;
· Working collaboratively within Learning Resources to lead long-term and annual planning processes for the unit;
· Providing leadership and direction for strategic initiatives and special projects within Learning Resources;
· Leading the development and implementation of initiatives in support of the College’s strategic plan;
· Working in collaboration with Learning Resources faculty, the Douglas Student Union, instructional faculty and members of administration;
· Developing strong and trusting relationships with College-wide and community partners;
· Working collaboratively with Deans, Associate Deans, and discipline coordinators/chairs in addressing concerns regarding service delivery;
· Overseeing the budgets including planning, monitoring, and reconciliation, in consultation with the Director;
· Exercising signing authority for expenditures assigned;
· Representing Learning Resources or the College on committees or external events as required.
· Providing leadership and strategic direction to teams within Learning Resources;
· Providing day-to-day supervision for unionized support staff supervisors in Learning Resources including, but not limited to, scheduling and work assignments, recruitment and selection, training, and performance planning and management;
· Interpreting and administering College policies and collective agreements;
· Acting on behalf of the Director in their absence, as requested
· Monitoring and remaining current on legislative developments related to copyright, fair dealing, intellectual property, licensing, and related matters in the post-secondary context;
· Developing and delivering comprehensive copyright services for the College, including preparing and communicating policies, guidelines, and procedures;
· Implementing and enhancing existing copyright infrastructure and systems to provide coordinated administration of copyright queries, clearances, and licenses;
· Collaborating with Library, Bookstore, and Academic Technology Services colleagues to provide an integrated approach to copyright support, service assessment and evaluation, and business process review;
· Advising and educating all members of the College community on copyright matters as they relate to administrative support and instructional delivery in the classroom and online.
Assessment & Evaluation
· Providing leadership within Learning Resources to conduct service and program outcome assessment, including planning, data gathering, and report preparation;
· Reviewing, interpreting, summarizing and writing reports on quantitative and qualitative user survey data (e.g., user feedback surveys);
· Designing and implementing service and program assessment initiatives and ensuring the use of data in decision-making and program/service evaluation;
· Leading the collection, analysis, and documentation of assessment data, and taking an evidence-based approach to achieving strategic objectives related to Library and Learning Centre operations and user needs;
· Coordinating an annual report and benchmarking process for Learning Resources;
· Mentoring Learning Resources employees as they develop their assessment and evaluation skills.
Education & Training
· Researching, developing, managing and delivering educational programs for students, faculty, and staff;
· Developing learning outcomes and objectives for Learning Resources programs, in collaboration with team members;
· Developing and implementing professional development plans for employees and teams within Learning Resources;
· Working collaboratively with other student service units to identify and deliver cross-training opportunities for employees.
Systems & Policies
· Ensuring related policies and procedures across all areas of the portfolio align with College practices and legislative requirements;
· Providing leadership, analysis, and advice in relation to policies and procedures regarding Learning Resources service areas;
· Reviewing and revising systems and protocols for Learning Resources services;
· Actively participating in the development of policies and related procedures regarding non-academic student supports and services.
· Administering the Learning Resources Sharepoint site, including overseeing updates and collaborating with CEIT and faculty members and staff in Learning Resources to ensure it, and other systems, are meeting unit needs.
Performing other related duties as required.
