The Opportunity: Associate Vice President, Communications and Marketing

The Associate Vice-President, Communications and Marketing leads strategic communications and marketing for Royal Roads University. This role is key to advancing and growing the RRU brand, profile and reputation internally and externally with key audiences locally, nationally and globally. This role is also responsible for wide-spread and powerful community engagement with audiences close to home and around the world, and skillful government and PSI relations.

The Associate Vice-President, Communications and Marketing reports directly to the Vice President, Communications and Advancement and will be a highly capable and trusted advisor to all Vice-Presidents and the President, as part of the RRU extended senior leadership team. 

 

Connaissances et compétences

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

•  University degree in marketing, communications or a related discipline. Masters level education and/or APR designation is seen as an asset and preferred. Alternative ways of learning, being, and knowing will be recognized, considered, and appreciated.

• Minimum 15 years’ experience in providing expert advice on marketing, communications, and public relations, including at least 7 years’ experience in a leadership capacity,

• Extensive experience in developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing campaigns that are visionary, creative and nimble, and increase understanding and engagement,

• A recognized marketing professional with a proven track record in implementing innovative, creative and effective marketing campaigns across all media,

• A proven expertise in leading digital first marketing and advertising campaigns,

• Strong analytical skills for interpreting marketing data and KPI’s,

• Strong experience leading significant and successful issues and crisis management responses, and in managing sensitive and complex issues,

• Leadership experience in a large, complex organization with a multi-faceted stakeholder environment where external relationships are important. Experience in higher education is preferred,

• Excellent communications skills with the ability to seamlessly move between written genres,

• Experience in people resource management and ability to navigate and resolve conflicts,

• Demonstrated expertise in strategic and innovative approaches, anticipating future trends and tools, and the evolving needs of targeted audiences,

• Ability to respectfully challenge institutional norms and traditions by identifying new marketing and communications opportunities and practices to advance strategic objectives,

• Experience developing and leveraging research and data analytics to inform and evaluate programs, campaigns and resource deployment,

• A track record of leading innovation in marketing technologies and digital communications, and the ability to demonstrate the ways in which they can be leveraged strategically,

• Seasoned leadership skills, sound judgment, foresight and the highest of professional ethics.

• Committed to and well versed in the critical communications and marketing work that flows from the following areas: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Reconciliation, Climate change and Innovation.
