The British Columbia Institute of Technology (“BCIT”) is one of Canada’s premier polytechnic institutions, renowned for its applied education and strong ties to industry. Serving over 50,000 students annually across five campuses, BCIT combines academic rigour with practical learning to drive innovation, career readiness, and community impact. Deeply rooted in values of inclusivity, collaboration, and excellence, the Institute holds a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce of British Columbia and beyond. As it continues to evolve in a dynamic post-secondary landscape, BCIT remains more than simply committed to fostering environments that support the holistic success and wellbeing of its diverse student body; it is central to all it does, as reflected in the BCIT Strategic Plan.

The Associate Director, Student Wellbeing & Accessibility (“Associate Director”) will report directly to the Senior Director, Student Success, and will provide strategic leadership across a comprehensive portfolio that includes a team of 40 in student health, counselling, development, and disability resources. Accountable for fulfilling the Institute’s legal duty to accommodate students, the role also encompasses oversight of policies, programs, and performance metrics that support a culture of equity, inclusion, and care. The Associate Director collaborates with individuals across campus, chairs and serves on committees, and supports early intervention by participating in a cross-departmental CARE Team and by providing education and support to staff and faculty on Universal Design for Learning and responding to students in distress. A visible and influential presence across BCIT, this leader shapes strategy, guides innovation, and ensures operational excellence in student wellbeing.

As the ideal candidate, you bring at least seven years of progressive leadership experience in student services or a related sector (community or client service), underpinned by a Master’s degree, or equivalent, in education, counselling, social work, or a relevant discipline. With a deep understanding of disability accommodation, health and wellbeing programs and human rights requirements, you possess focused leadership skills and a proven ability to develop evidence-informed approaches. Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and crisis management skills are essential, as is a track record of building high-performance, collaborative teams in complex organizational settings. Experience working within a unionized environment and/or an understanding of labour relations will be seen as an asset.

This is a distinctive opportunity to shape the future of student wellbeing at one of Canada’s most respected post-secondaries. Located in beautiful Burnaby, British Columbia, the role offers both professional impact and personal reward, inviting a mission-driven leader to advance a culture of equity, support, and resilience at scale.
