Reporting to the Vice President Academic and Chief Learning Officer, the Dean of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts contributes to the academic quality and enrolment growth and sustainability of the College by providing academic and administrative leadership, supervision, support and direction to School administrators, academic coordinators, faculty, and support staff, as well as senior oversight of enterprise operations – The Local restaurant and the Event Centre. This includes program development and support, financial planning and management, and human resource management responsibilities.
This is a complex mandate for a savvy decision-maker who can balance student needs as a top priority while ensuring that program delivery and School operations are uniformly excellent. A key aspect of your role will be integrating the principles and practices of Centennial as a learning-centred college, its core values of inclusion, social justice, internationalization, Indigenization and global citizenship, and the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion across all areas of the School and enterprise operations.
As Dean, you’ll be accountable for the ongoing review, delivery and evaluation of School programs delivered to students on our Progress campus in Toronto and our Suzhou Centennial College campus in China, and the development of new programs reflecting the future of work. As such, you’ll work closely with administrators, faculty and support staff in identifying and securing new academic pathways for students, as well as ensure that curriculum reflects current industry trends and best practices.
A network and relationship builder, comfortable interacting with senior leaders in government, industry and academic settings, you’ll establish and steward partnerships, domestically and internationally, identify and realize revenue-generating initiatives, and promote positive relations with all stakeholders.
Your track record of success as a Hospitality, Tourism and/or Culinary industry leader is underpinned by a master’s degree, preferably in Hospitality, Tourism and/or Culinary Arts, or Business, complemented by knowledge of the post-secondary education sector and developing business cases for fund development. With seven (7) or more years of relevant, progressive experience, you have proven strengths in inclusive leadership, business and budget management, program and project management and evaluation, funding proposal and business case development, contract negotiations, and the application of adult education theory.
As a professional, you’re also recognized for your business acumen, and your ability to work with diverse stakeholders and teams, effectively lead and manage human resources in a unionized setting, drive community and partnership development, and translate strategy into action to deliver measurable results. Your diversity and inclusion skills and awareness are crucial in this role, as is your ability to encourage and embrace alternate and innovative, technology-enabled teaching strategies to accommodate rapidly changing learning demands.
