Instructional Designer - Multiple Opportunities Available 

Start Date: As soon as possible 

Salary Range: $60,182.67 to $72,939.78

Location:  14 Fultz and/or remotely, as required

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)

 

Reporting to the Manager, Academic Development, Centre for Learning and Innovation (CLI), the Instructional Designer (ID) works alongside development team (Content Providers, Instructors and Educational Developers) to develop courses for online and blended delivery. The ID will be responsible for applying best practices in teaching and learning for the online environment to the development of engaging courses in MITT’s learning management system.

This position will require the ID to apply modern learning theory and instructional design principles to support the use of appropriate instructional strategies to build engaging course and learning content. Instructional Designers will also be responsible to provide consultation to faculty in the use of adopted technologies in the classroom and support professional development for faculty in instructional design, learning strategies, testing and evaluation and learning technologies.

Connaissances et compétences

  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and ability to demonstrate the application of the principles into course design.
  • Experience using, both from a learner and educator perspective, an online learning management system (preferably Brightspace).
  • Experience with the use of technology in education.
  • Experience incorporating lockdown browser technologies into course content.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, time-management, writing and computer skills.
  • Project management education and/or experience preferred.
  • Experience with post-secondary instruction and development preferred.
  • Experience using content authoring tools. (eg. Articulate, Captivate, iSpring, etc.) preferred.

Tâches et responsabilités

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the development team to prepare quality and engaging online and blended courses.
  • Supporting Content Providers in the development of course delivery materials and support the deployment of new instructional practices.
  • Verifying and further developing (where necessary) the proposed course learning outcomes and ensuring that the methods of evaluation align with course learning outcomes.
  • Applying appropriate delivery and learning methodologies and assessment strategies to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Applying modern instructional design principles to support course development and redesign.
  • Developing complete courses and uploading materials to MITT’s online learning management system (Brightspace by D2L).
  • Communicating promptly and effectively (via email, phone or Zoom/Teams) with the development team to meet identified deadlines.
  • Ensure that course/program development is in alignment with approved MITT curriculum development framework.

Éducation

  • Post-Graduate education specializing in Instructional Design, Adult Education. A certificate in Instructional Design in combination with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years’ experience designing and developing engaging curriculum for online/blended environments using a known instructional design theory that meet relevant provincial, federal and international standards such as WCAG. (May include graduate degree experience if relevant)
