The Library Technician is located in Fort Smith, NT at the Thebacha Campus of Aurora College and reports to the Manager, Library and Information Services. The position contributes to the campus and community learning centres by providing support and assistance in the delivery of library programs and services to all staff and students. The library also serves external organizations and members of the public.
The Library Technician will have a broad knowledge of library and information policies, procedures, methods, ethics and professional standards as well as knowledge of computerized research, information gathering systems and methods, including a variety of information database systems, and the ability to conduct complex Internet searches. The incumbent will have knowledge of the following types of computer programs: information database systems, including full working knowledge of Sirsi's integrated library management system, the capabilities and information resources of the Internet, and Microsoft Office programs. They will also have good listening skills and have the ability to train and work effectively with others.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: The completion of a Library Technician diploma program and two years' of related library experience.
Assets: Knowledge of and experience with college and university level research methods and applications, usually acquired through completion of a university degree.
