Assiniboine’s two-year Agribusiness program combines agriculture, technology, and business for an in-depth education in one of Canada's largest industries. We provide students a broad understanding that includes hands-on learning through labs, field trips and projects; with a dynamic, student-focused atmosphere of small classes and experienced faculty.

Knowledge and Skills

Being able to deliver results by having:

  • Evidence of post-secondary teaching experience, including curriculum development and knowledge or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS) would be an asset.
  • Possess extensive industry experience in the marketing and sale of crop commodities as well as the functionality behind commodity markets.  A grain dealer license would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge in the areas of grain grading and the logistics of grain movement domestically and internationally is an asset.
  • Proficient with national and international economic policies and current events and how they impact various agricultural enterprises.
  • The understanding of taxation and succession planning on such enterprises and the ability to communicate agricultural accounting and financial concepts through industry specific platforms such as Ag Expert is expected.
  • The position offers opportunities to pursue research, public service, and extension activities in a variety of environments. Experience or evidence of ability to pursue an applied research program is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

Be Passionate and Taking Initiative with these Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in a classroom or field training situation and provide academic assistance during consultation hours.
  • Modify and/or develop course objectives, course outlines, curricula and evaluation procedures and instruments with the aid and use of software platforms, artificial intelligence and technology.
  • Understand and convey the intricacies of Canadian grain trading and logistics and the economic and regulator environment that the grain and oilseed commodity sector operate in from field to fork including the use of commodity contracts, pricing strategies and risk management.
  • Teach micro and macro agricultural economics to aid in agricultural business decision making. Understand and convey the importance of financial ratios and financial reporting in the agriculture business and farm context in Canada.
  • Be adaptable to cover courses in other foundational areas such as math, communications, finance, professionalism, and safety.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary faculty in horticulture, sustainable foods, environmental technologies, agribusiness, and culinary arts, as well as with other stakeholders in the community and the province.
  • Prepare and maintain all course-related records including evaluation, attendance records, and submit information as required.
  • Identify, prepare, and organize course materials and learning resources for course delivery.

Education

  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business, Agricultural Economics or Financial, Commerce or a closely related discipline with appropriate industry experience is necessary, while a post graduate credential would be desirable.
