We are looking for:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Chief Governance Officer and Strategic Advisor to the President to join our team. This role supports the efficient management of the President’s Office and the Executive Management Team (EMT). This role encompasses planning, organizing, and coordinating a range of advisory and executive services to enhance the President’s Office’s capacity to address critical issues related to CICan’s mandate, strategic objectives, and operational goals. The Chief Governance Officer provides strategic governance oversight and support to ensure excellence in Board and in internal governance and planning.

This management position requires leadership, problem-solving abilities, strong decision-making skills, and initiative. The role demands strong organizational, interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills, coupled with a high degree of professionalism, political acumen, and sound judgment. The ability to manage frequently changing priorities and an aptitude for people management, team building, work planning, and general administration are vital.

Relevant experience in:    

Minimum five (5) years of experience in:

  • Speech writing, briefing note preparation, and oral briefing skills;
  • Working with a Board of Directors;
  • Executive support, governance coordination, and office management;
  • Planning and preparing special events;
  • Strategic planning, priority settings and policy development;
  • Project management and operational oversight.

Knowledge:  

  • Of Non-Profit governance and best practices;
  • The college system in Canada, including the capabilities and challenges of Canada’s colleges/institutes;
  • Of national issues in post-secondary education and community economic and social development;
  • Of government functions at both the political and bureaucratic levels;
  • MS Office Suite and other relevant software;
  • Of Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (Asset).

Professional Training  

Post secondary education in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation:  $93,356 - $123,288

Status: Temporary Full-Time (12 months – replacement of an employee on leave)

Locations: 1 Rideau Street, suite 701, Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 8S7

Working Conditions: Hybrid work environment - Ottawa based

Languages:  Bilingual – French and English
