Description

We are inviting you to become part of the School of Arts and Culture team as the permanent full-time Associate Dean.

The School of Arts and Culture includes Academic Upgrading, the Creative Arts, the Humanities, and the Social Sciences. The school offers a range of credential programs, ranging from two-year diplomas to full bachelor’s degrees. As part of a newly-minted polytechnic, Arts and Culture offers and is developing socially and culturally impactful programming with a view to student and graduate success.

Led by a dedicated Dean, the School of Arts and Culture is further served by two Associate Deans, an Operations Manager, two Program Assistants, and an Administrative Officer. The Associate Deans are responsible for providing academic and operational leadership for programs and faculty as assigned by the Dean.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant for this position will be responsible for leading Academic Upgrading and Creative Arts programming. Applicants with a disciplinary connection to the portfolio are especially encouraged to apply, though we are open to applicants with backgrounds relevant to any area within the School of Arts and Culture.

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful post-secondary teaching experience or three (3) years of post-secondary teaching and other relevant professional experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years of academic leadership experience
  • A modest creative/scholarly profile
  • Experience in program development and renewal
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and scholarly activity
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a learner-centred culture
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, written, and conflict resolution skills

Duties and Responsibilities

There are currently 38 full-time, 9 sessional, and 22 part-time faculty members in the school. There are over 1,150 students enrolled in SAC programs, and courses offered comprise well over 10,000 seats per year.

The Humanities and Social Sciences portfolio includes the following programs:
    • Bachelor of Arts: Psychology
    • Bachelor of Science: Psychology
    • Bachelor of Arts: University Transfer
    • Bachelor of Arts: Multidisciplinary (Fall 2023)
    • Justice Studies Diploma
    • Open Studies
The Academic Upgrading and Creative Arts portfolio includes the following programs:
  • Individualized upgrading in Science, Math, and English
  • ESL
  • Visual Arts Diploma
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts: University Transfer
  • Bachelor of Applied Arts: Animation and Visual Effects
  • Bachelor of Applied Arts: Film, Theatre, and Live Entertainment

Education

  • Master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the portfolio or PhD in a broader school discipline and clear connection to the portfolio
  • MFA or earned Doctorate from a recognized institution, with at least one graduate degree in a discipline relevant to the portfolio is an asset
