The Business & Community Liaison role is to develop professional relationships with community partners and employers in 4 rural regions in BC: Metropolitan fringe, Okanagan Valley, Northern Vancouver Island and Northern BC to support and coordinate client work placement.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge of newcomer needs, barriers and settlement service providers, CLBs;
• Demonstrated experience providing customer service and resolving issues;
• Experience working on a research project;
• A demonstrated ability to exhibit respect for clients, client diversity, and community partners;
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate the exchange of information between stakeholders;
• Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule based on travel and meeting schedules, this may include
some evenings and weekends;
• Willingness to travel around the Province of BC;
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle;
• Excellent computer skills: MS Office Suite, Adobe Professional Suite, and the use of online-on
demand meeting and webinar applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Community Liaison
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with agencies, businesses, training institutions, and
other stakeholder groups the 4 rural regions in BC;
• Execute plans to engage with strategic community partners;
• Attend province-wide employment related events to promote the program, learns about updates
to Labour Market information and networks with key stakeholders;
• Maintains professional currency with respect to the principles and foundations of community
relations, practices and activities;
• Leads and coordinate special events and initiatives to disseminate information about the program
and make new connections;
• Meet with employers to complete detailed needs assessments of employment opportunities, gaps
and opportunities;
• Build positive relationships with the Centre Manager at WorkBCs and other organizations in rural
areas of BC;
• Works with researchers to develop a database of community and Centre contacts, interests and
opportunities, maintains the database, produces reports.
Marketing and Communications
• Liaises with Training Group’s Marketing and Communications team to develop promotional and
communications materials (both internal and external);
• Responsible for creating awareness of program among potential clients and stakeholders as well
as the recruitment of participants;
• Prepares and delivers written communications as required;
• Assists in the development and maintenance of social media and online presence;
• Maintains records of contacts and activities, preparing regular statistical reports regarding
Community Relations activities;
• Maintains a variety of paper and electronic records;
• Creates, composes and prepares routine correspondence, memos, letters, and reports.
Job Development
• Build and maintain positive employer relationships;
• Assist with participant needs assessments to determine eligibility for program and job readiness;
• Conduct info sessions and intake interviews to determine suitability for program;
• Coordinate and schedule Employer Partner activities in the program such as guest speakers on
hiring practices, labour market information, mock interviews and hiring fairs;
• Assist participants to access:
One or more work experience,
-Job shadowing opportunities,
-Informational interviews,
-Direct Job placements,
-Mentorship.
• Assist participants with job search strategies and to prepare for scheduled interviews;
• Identify and negotiate work experience opportunities for participants;
• Develop, maintain and monitor clients progress in secure management file;
• Assist employers with onboarding and the development of training;
• Monitor and provide ongoing support during and after completion of program;
• Assist participants and employers to resolve issues that may arise during work experience;
• Maintain records of participant progress and provide updates through monthly reports and regular
team meetings;
• Provide coverage for team members including facilitation for online class sessions;
• Foster positive, productive working relationships and work collaboratively to contribute to a
positive work environment based on mutual respect;
• Participate in Training Group’s Quality Management System (ISO9001:2015).

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training and marketing
experience;
• 3 years demonstrated experience building and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders;
