Camosun College is seeking a new Provost and Vice-President, Academic. This is a transformative leadership opportunity for a visionary educator to shape the future of a dynamic and inclusive, community-focused institution.
Located in Victoria, B.C., on the territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Kosapsum) and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, Camosun College has been a leader in life-changing learning since 1971. Reporting to the President, the Provost and Vice President (VP), Academic is the senior educational and student services officer of the College and a key member of the executive team. The Provost leads strategic priorities across academic programming, applied research and innovation, enrollment planning, student services, and teaching and learning. This role is central to advancing the College’s vision of inspiring life-changing learning through academic excellence, innovation, and inclusive student experiences.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Strategic leadership
Champions the College’s vision of life-changing learning through applied learning and a supported student experience
Leads the schools and education service departments in alignment with the College’s strategic plan
Participates in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the College’s Education Plan
Provides strategic direction and mentorship to the Education Council
Establishes effective divisional organizational structures, including committees and working groups
Advises the President and executive team on academic and student service matters and institutional priorities
Develops communication strategies to enhance awareness of and engagement with the Education division’s activities and initiatives

Academic excellence and innovation
Leads the development of new programs
Ensures educational programming meets the needs of students, community, business and industry
Oversees quality assurance processes, including cyclical program reviews
Fosters excellence in teaching and innovative instructional methods
Champions academic innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration, emerging technologies, and responsive program design
Leads education policy development and renewal

Student experience
Supports the entire student journey, from recruitment and retention
Leads strategic enrollment management
Champions service standards and streamlined processes that enable students to easily navigate academic, administrative, and support systems
Oversees student complaint and appeal processes
Ensures that Indigenous ways of knowing and being are embedded across programming and the student experience
Promotes inclusive learning environments that reflect diverse perspectives and support student success

Operational excellence
Approves staffing and resource allocation for schools and educational service departments
Directs the preparation of the division’s capital and operating budgets and the related communication and consultation processes
Leads the development of the college’s course and program schedule to optimize capacity
Ensures that the college’s learning spaces, digital tools and equipment support educational delivery
Contributes to effective labour relations; participates in collective bargaining

External relations and partnerships
Builds and maintains relationships with government, post-secondary institutions, and industry partners
Serves as an ambassador for the College, to enhance visibility and collaboration
Supports development and coordination of education and training opportunities with community partners
Provides strategic direction for international student recruitment and sustains global partnerships to enhance the College’s international profile

The incumbent will possess:
A doctoral degree; or a master’s degree with exceptional leadership experience
At least ten years’ experience in senior academic leadership
Teaching or professional service experience in a post-secondary institution

Strategic and visionary leader with a demonstrated ability to lead and empower faculty and staff
Demonstrated success in leading academic transformation and fostering innovation
Demonstrated ability to navigate complexity, engage diverse stakeholders, and lead teams through change
Experience in advancing equity, inclusion, and Indigenous engagement
Strong financial and operational acumen
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to lead data-informed decision-making to achieve measurable outcomes
Ability to advocate on behalf of the institution with appropriate members of government, politicians and stakeholders as appropriate
Experience working in a multi-campus and community-focused institution

Recruitment Range: $179,232 to $238,976 per year - Starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity. Performance Range: Salary may be up to a maximum of $274,822, which is obtainable through annual performance increases. CDN / Year
