Position Summary
Centennial College’s Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering Technology, Trades & Transportation is looking for an engaging Professor to teach courses both theory in classrooms and labs within their Commercial Vehicle & Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship and Post- Secondary Programs, with the ability to teach all related subjects. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the successful candidate will support students in reaching their learning objectives through class, lab and apprenticeship placements to reach their Diploma/Certificate program goals. The incumbent will also collaborate/participate in program and course development, course modifications, lab maintenance/improvement, program quality assurance/accreditation, applied research initiatives, community outreach and on-going future program needs.

Responsibilities
• Effectively teach curriculum for all levels of apprenticeship and post-secondary learning with ability to teach in any subject area as prescribed by the Motive Power Program standards as well as the Apprenticeship In-school curriculum for Commercial Vehicle and Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to support and maintain laboratory facilities, vehicles, and equipment, while developing effective lab activities and objective assessments aligned with curriculum requirements
• Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment through communication and action, based on the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion with all students, faculty, staff, external partners and community members
• Engage students to create a positive and accepting teaching and learning environment for all in person and virtual settings
• Employs and adapts appropriate teaching/learning strategies; examines ongoing learning materials and instructional methods to eliminate potential bias or barriers (in accordance with college and program accreditation requirements)
• Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
• Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners or community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
• Work effectively in a team-based environment
• Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies including the use academic technology effectively to enhance and support learning both in person and online
• Develop, revise and adapt appropriate learning resources and evaluations for students
• Collaborate with other faculty to enhance student learning opportunities and methods
• Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
• Provide academic support to students as part of regularly scheduled office hours and refer to appropriate college services as required
• Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
• Maintain contacts with relevant industry and professional associations, to stay updated on industry trends
• Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
• Attend and participate in meetings, maintains records of student grades/assessments, and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities

Qualifications/Experience

• Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Certificate of Qualification (421A) or equivalent in and ongoing good standing is mandatory
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive and relevant experience as a licensed 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician. 310T Truck and Coach license is an asset.
• Possess a high level of expertise in electrical system diagnosis, electro-hydraulic controls, multiplex system operation and diagnosis, powertrain diagnosis and repair.
• Currently registered (or completed) in the Teaching & Learning in Higher Education program, or equivalent training and/or two (2) years teaching experience in a trades-training context
• Knowledge of adult education principles and the role of learning outcomes, instructional approaches, and evaluation techniques an asset.
• Demonstrated competence in the use of office, instructional and trade-related computer software.
• Experience in course or learning materials development preferred
• Flexible and adaptable to change; able to pivot instruction to ensure successful student learning outcomes
• Proven communication, (written/oral) interpersonal and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to clearly articulate expectations for students regarding learning outcomes, concepts and the evaluation techniques to be used
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with others at all levels.
• Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom and lab settings to ensure a quality learning experience
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver on-line classes in both asynchronous & synchronous modalities
