Red Deer Polytechnic is recruiting a Dean who would be responsible for the development and oversight of programs and partnerships in the Donald School of Business and Science which includes programming across a breadth of credentials, including certificates, diplomas and degrees, micro-credentials and non-credit programs.

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Candidates must demonstrate success in effective team building, collaboration, change management, and program implementation.
  • Significant industry experience and/or business acumen is preferred.
  • Academic leadership experience within a college or polytechnic would be an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is one of the institutions senior leaders; a member of the Polytechnic Leadership Team, reporting to the Vice President Academic and Student Experience. With a commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and indigenization (EDII), the Dean is accountable for advancing the institution’s strategic direction as a polytechnic focused on the economic and social priorities of Alberta. This includes the skillful execution of five essentials roles:
    • Academic leader and mentor to Associate Deans, faculty, and staff
    • Lead of academic program offerings, growth, and renewal, including student enrolment and retention of domestic, indigenous and international learners within all levels of credentials including degrees, certificates, diplomas, and micro credentials and non-credit programming
    • Lead in advancing and promoting opportunities for applied research and scholarly activity
    • Steward of institutional resources and seeker of net revenue generating opportunities
    • Institutional ambassador, stakeholder liaison, and key connector with counterparts at other PSIs, partner organizations, industry, government and the community

 

As a senior leader at Red Deer Polytechnic and a member of the Polytechnic Leadership Team, the Dean must approach their work with a strategic and systems thinking mindset where needs of the entire institution are balanced with program level decisions. Committed to quality and relevance, the Dean will utilize internal and external data to inform the planning and development of initiatives, programs, credentials, and services as well as applied research initiatives. The school’s program mix will be developed and refined with industry “at the table” and will be responsive to their needs today and into the future.

Within their areas of responsibility, the Dean is expected to inspire a culture of curiosity, applied research and innovation that advances student pathways and success. Leveraging their own self-awareness and interpersonal skills, the Dean challenges themselves and others to think differently and move new ideas forward. The Dean will contribute to a dynamic polytechnic experience for all stakeholders with the goal of increasing Red Deer Polytechnic’s economic and social impact. The Dean will embody the institutional values and collaboratively advance the institutional vision, mission and priorities while contributing to the overall sustainability of Red Deer Polytechnic and the province and communities we serve.

Education

  • Candidates should possess a graduate level credential from a recognized institution in a discipline related to programming in Business or Science (i.e. Business Admin, Commerce, Engineering, Sciences) supplemented by 5-10 years’ experience in a strategic leadership role.
