Required:
• Masters Degree in Nursing preferred;
• 5 years of experience in Leadership and Management;

Dean, Health

Nature and Scope of Work

This position is responsible for leadership and management of all health programs. The ability to develop a culture that supports the mission and values of the College, is consistent with adult education principles, and respects partnership with our communities, government agencies, and others is paramount.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Dean of Health is responsible to:

  • Lead and manage the unit to support Northern Lakes College’s vision, mission, and strategic direction.
  • Utilize an entrepreneurial model to develop programming that will meet present and future market demands and is responsive to the needs of learners.
  • Ensure the quality and rigor of all programs assigned.
  • Prepare, monitor and manage budget for programs and projects as assigned, including Primary Care Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic, Advanced Emergency Transport Medicine, Practical Nurse, Health Care Aide, and dual credit and non-credit offerings of Health programs.
  • Establish, maintain, and promote effective, professional relationships both internal and external to the College.
  • Represent the needs of programs at the senior management level.
  • Work in collaboration with the External Relations department and other groups to maximize program awareness and registrations.
  • Work with partner communities and groups, including Program Advisory Committees, to identify educational needs, and meet them.
  • Lead ongoing strategic and fiscal planning for departments and projects as assigned.
  • Provide growth opportunities for team members to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Serve on management committees including Operations, Policy Review, Academic Council, Dean’s Council, the Core Business Committee, and others as assigned.
  • Ensure continued development/improvement of programs by participating in the program review process.
  • Represent the College on provincial committees and groups as appropriate to program portfolio.
  • Actively seek, identify, propose and implement new program opportunities, grant opportunities, and collaborations that are beneficial to the College and its students.
  • Regularly connect for feedback on department programming and operations from direct reports, peers, students and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the implementation of College Policies, Procedures, and Regulations, and initiate and steward changes of these as necessary.
  • Work with the Ministry to ensure standards are met for program approval, revision, and operation.
  • Work with the Centre for Teaching and Learning on curriculum development initiatives as required.
  • Review of student enrolments and allocation of instructional resources, as required, to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in meeting learners’ needs.
  • Implement measures to ensure programs meet critical key performance indicators, and report results.
