Bow Valley College is Alberta’s largest comprehensive community college, serving Calgary and the surrounding region, with 8 locations throughout Southern Alberta. Over 17,000 learners (7,804 FLEs) take part in year-round credit and non-credit programs.

For over 50 years, Bow Valley College has been designing and delivering education and skills training that is accessible, flexible, and responsive to labour market and learner needs in Calgary and the surrounding region.

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic, the Dean is one of the key academic officers of the College.  As such, the Dean is responsible for the strategic planning, development, implementation and evaluation of research and innovation programs across the college.

As Bow Valley College aspires to shape the future of college education, the Dean is expected to be able to lead the charge to broaden the applied research agenda.  Further, the Dean is expected to contribute creatively to the planning and delivery of educational programming and services, being able to think “outside the box” in designing learning solutions for a variety of learners and customers. The position is responsible for creating and implementing significant new directions and initiatives for the department.

The Dean, Research and Innovation will have demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, is able to gain the confidence and respect of faculty and staff members, influence the organization at various levels and build consensus towards achieving the vision and goals of the College.

The ideal candidate brings demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, a relevant Master’s degree, and a minimum of five years of previous experience in managing or coordinating in an educational setting and significant instructional or related experience. You will have the ability to create a sense of common purpose amongst faculty, staff, students and stakeholders, and will instil a sense of enthusiasm and confidence, fosters a climate of innovation, and stimulates all to contribute their best.  You will have entrepreneurial skills and the ability to establish and grow external relationships.  You are committed to instructional excellence and creating a learner-focused environment.  In conjunction with the faculty, identifies and implements teaching strategies that foster excellent learner learning, including exploring innovative approaches to learning.
