North Island College is seeking a Director, Teaching and Learning Innovation based at the Comox Valley campus.

The Director reports to the Executive Vice President, Academic and Chief Operating Officer and through a consultative and collaborative process is responsible for developing and acting on a strategic vision of teaching and learning within the college community. In support of this vision, the Director maintains and develops appropriate policies, establishes and operates a Teaching and Learning Centre to support NIC’s decentralized faculty, provides strategic and operational direction for distributed learning and leadership for faculty facilitators and others who provide support in teaching and learning, distributed learning and global learning. The Director works with the Director of Aboriginal Education, the Aboriginal Education Facilitator, the Executive Director of International Education and the deans to support reconciliation, indigenization and internationalization of the curriculum. The incumbent collaborates with the deans to ensure that faculty are prepared to undertake program review and the Government of British Columbia’s requirements for the quality assurance process audit (QAPA). The Director of Teaching and Learning Innovation also collaborates with the Director of Information Technology, Infrastructure and Educational Technology in the implementation of educational technology.

The Director is a member of the Senior Education Team (SET) and is a member of other committees and councils as necessary to support the position’s mandate and acts as a resource for academic planning in support of strategic plan objectives, manages faculty onboarding and provides input to faculty for professional development purposes. The Director oversees faculty use of distributed learning technologies, including the learning management system and Interactive Television in support of distributed learning plan objectives. The incumbent has primary responsibility for the quality assurance and program review processes in collaboration with the deans, schools and departments. The Director reports regularly to Education Council on teaching and learning and quality assurance matters.
