The Essential Skills Coach/Facilitator role delivers essential skills, career exploration and employability training virtually to 100 newcomer participants in small groups across 4 rural regions in BC. This role will be responsible for offering one-to-one coaching as needed to participants and prepare them for employment in their local communities.

Knowledge and Skills

•Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Education) or equivalent experience;
• Experience in employment programs or CCDP certificate an asset;
• Experience working with newcomers with varying language abilities
• Knowledge of Essential & Employability Skills resources and tools;
• Experience with group facilitation and individual coaching;
• Excellent with Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel, online video conferencing platforms such
as Zoom and Blackboard
• Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check. A criminal record will not automatically result

Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer and debrief essential skills assessments pre and post program;
• Assist with collecting informed consent and collect personal information;
• Meet one to one with clients and review ES report and learning plan;
• Learn and work with Skills for Success and create relevant pre-employment coursework using the
ESDCS’s Skills for Success framework (formerly Essential Skills);
• Support individual learners to achieve skill gain;
• Assign learning modules and monitor progress;
• Provide coaching to achieve desired learning to a range of clients including those with multiple
• Assist individuals to develop realistic continuous learning plan to follow upon conclusion of
• Lead and conduct information and intake sessions;
• Screen program candidates for appropriateness;
• Facilitate 8 week sessions covering career planning, job search, life skills, essential and
employability skills;
• Support clients with building confidence and skills in using technology;
• Create and maintain a professional workplace environment for learners online;
• Refer participants to appropriate community service when required;
• Develop and edit curriculum as required;
• Coordinate guest speakers;
• Monitor and document participant progress and report monthly or as needed;
• Encourage peer mentorship and learning in small group sessions;
• Scaffolds learning, applying essential skills methodology to build skills for success;
• Integrates authentic workplace materials relative to the learners goal;
• Assist the Coordinator with marketing and recruitment;
• Ensure the collection of data is effectively and securely managed and filed;
• Maintain participant progress records adhering to privacy requirements;
• Maintain organized electronic file system of curriculum with instruction guides;
• Participate in team meetings;
• Contribute to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
