Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of broad legal experience with a strong background in corporate/commercial and governance matters. Exposure to relevant areas such as administrative law, including human rights and litigation, charities, real estate and regulatory law, is important. Prior legal experience in the field of post-secondary education is an asset, but not required. You will have demonstrated leadership skills and a proven history of advising on strategic planning and risk management for a large organization with multiple constituencies. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a collaborative team in a role that requires legal expertise, broad community-minded thinking, and excellent judgment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the University President, the successful candidate will manage and lead the University’s office of legal affairs and engage with legal counsel attached to various departments throughout the University. You will act as the key legal advisor and provide strategic and tactical advice to the President and Executive Leadership Team on all University matters involving legal and policy issues.
