Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) is a comprehensive community institution, established in 1966 in Grande Prairie, and our stewardship region includes campuses in Fairview and Grande Prairie, as well as learning centres in Edson, Grande Cache, Hinton and Jasper. The Department

The Manager, Business Services will be working within Financial Services. This means being part of a high-performing team of individuals who focus on working together to deliver exceptional services. The team as a whole includes payroll, business services (budgeting, forecasts and strategic analysis), accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital asset and inventory control, financial reporting, contract management, internal controls, mail receipt and distribution, and purchasing. Each of these areas requires a unique set of skills and abilities. While working with staff, students, external clients or members of the community, team members are driven to deliver exceptional customer service while constantly evolving to improve processes.

Knowledge and Skills

Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, as well as current proficiency with Microsoft Office, budgeting software and financial reporting tools. Customer service skills and the ability to be an expert and trusted business advisor to GPRC internal customers are vital.  The ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders is critical to the success of the incumbent in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Financial Services, the Manager, Business Services is responsible for supervising Business Services staff and for providing financial expertise to all levels of management at GPRC in order to facilitate decision making and the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. The Manager provides leadership in planning, developing, implementing and maintaining the operational budget and reports, as well as support in reporting, reviewing and monitoring financial operational results, coordinating and developing common and consistent best practices and processes, and assisting with the development of business cases. This position is frequently called upon to assist with re-engineering major operational business processes, chart of accounts, reporting and investigation and to initiate/implement new or modified policies, processes and procedures based on changing needs.

Education

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.  A professional accounting designation would be considered an asset. Consideration will also be given to individuals considering or currently enrolled in the CPA training program.
