The Manager, Digital Front-End Development is accountable for the selection/development, support and maintenance of digital front-end development solutions related to college business and stakeholder services, primarily in online services. The incumbent will work very closely with various Information Systems departments, such as Digital Front-End Platforms, DevOps, and Data Integration, to deliver end-to-end digital front-end solutions.

This position is heavily specialized in digital front-end technology innovations, and thereby provides consultative/ technical support to management, chairs, faculty, and staff.  The Manager also assists the AVP, Information Systems and IS Directors with the development/ management of policies and procedures related to new digital front-end technologies effectively supporting short- and long-range planning.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with one day on-site, and four days remote.

Duties and Responsibilities

Planning, Organizing and Development

  • Responsible for the stewardship of College-wide front-end technology innovations for the benefit of improved services to the business and Conestoga’s clients/employees/students
  • Manage a team of Web, UX, and QA Developers and assigned technical specialists exercising a structured approach to research and discovery, resulting in workable solutions
  • Work with AVP, Information Systems and IS Directors to establish major priorities, as well as manage smaller client needs within their planning mandate
  • Meet regularly with the Digital Front-End Platforms department to fully understand their business/technology needs, facilitating the overall technology architecture
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to maintain current knowledge of technologies
  • Evaluate options and provide expertise in acquiring technology (software and platforms) from reliable sources
  • Assist stakeholders to document detailed requirements, conduct needs assessment, following a formal process to select/recommend a successful solution for new initiatives
  • Work with vendors to develop installation, training, and implementation plans, oversee the customization process, including supporting documentation in accordance with system development standards for new technology
  • Provide on-going support and leadership in the delivery of college-wide enterprise initiatives and improvements, coordinate integrated system activities in accordance with varying business cycles
  • Enforce the use of standards and procedures for documentation and design methodologies
  • Ensure electronic applications and interfaced systems maintain data integrity and security of the operating system including stored data
  • Prepare impact analysis and technology specifications, which outline the college/client needs and supports the purchase requisition for obtaining services


Team Leadership

  • Chair regular meetings to ensure team members are aware of current developments and able to provide feedback
  • Provide leadership to staff by ensuring priorities have been sufficiently developed along with the management of client expectations
  • Determine work priorities/assignments for staff and work with them to establish project scheduling, creating an effective working environment for staff
  • Define team performance measures and ensures accountable contributions to team projects and helps establish priorities based on operational plans
  • Develops strategies to engage employees and maximize employee satisfaction
  • Responsible for applicable staff development, motivation, evaluation, time/project reporting and training, as well as encouraging the transfer/sharing of knowledge within the department


General Administration

  • Maintain a high level of quality and performance through effective use of resources
  • Maintain documentation supporting the anticipated, planned, and actual activities for all Information Systems areas
  • Work with AVP, Information Systems and IS Directors to ensure documents and reports are easily merged with other related documents
  • Provide regular reports on overall status of projects against established plans to the Digital Front-End Platforms department
  • Provide input into the development of department goals, objectives, and strategic plan, as well as the establishment/ implementation of policies and procedures
  • Maintain estimates/forecasts and progress reports on projects/initiatives and related activities pertaining to the information technology environment




  •  Three-year Diploma/Degree in Computer Science or a related field is required
  • Minimum seven years of relevant experience
  • Established leadership, management, analytical, organizational, and interpretive skills
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Information Technology with the ability to research opportunities and convert into value added solutions
  • Well-developed problem solving and decision-making ability with a keen interest in technology and with a solution-driven approach
  • Strong skills in mobile/portable devices and social networking to facilitate mobility of online delivery
  • Proficient in Web, Portal and Enterprise structured methodologies and integration, primarily focused on the design, development, and transition/implementation of technology solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consultative skills to work effectively with a wide variety of clients/stakeholders, management, and technical staff
