Reporting to the Dean, International & Partnerships, the Manager, International Partnerships and Projects is responsible for planning, developing, managing, marketing and overseeing the international institutional and governmental partnerships in support of the College’s International Strategic Plan, internationalization mandate and objectives. These partnerships could include, but not limited to international higher education institutions, governmental and non-governmental agencies.

The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership and direction to staff, students and faculty in the planning and implementation of these projects, in collaboration with the Manager, International and Exchange Students and other internal and external stakeholders. The type of projects to be supported include student and faculty experience, summer programs (language and visits), twinning pathways with academic institutions abroad, in-bound and out-bound mobility opportunities and others.

In addition, to support other internationalization priorities, the incumbent will collaborate on supporting internationalization of curriculum, cross-cultural training, developing flexible pedagogy and learning support systems ensuring positive outcomes for all learners. Mohawk College has several other college-wide international support initiatives and the incumbent will be responsible for tasking, monitoring and achieving annual college-wide objectives for these interdepartmental activities. ​


The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Institutional International Partnerships – Development, Management and Growth:

  • Works collaboratively to develop and execute international partnership development strategy – this includes sourcing, finalizing, developing, maintaining and growing international partnerships.
  • Maintaining and building relationships with current and existing partners, expanding further the partnership pillars with these institutions to impact student and faculty mobility, enrollment and identifying additional revenue generating opportunities through partnership projects.
  • Government and Institutional Grant Proposals – Works with Academic Coordinator to recommend opportunities, then apply to and operationalize these government projects/grants (e.g. SAGE, CICAN, ELAP, CARICOM, Erasmus, etc.).
  • In collaboration with other members of the International and Partnerships department, launches, operationalizes supports continued relationship building activity with partners ensuring a positive impact on college internationalization, enrolment and revenue generation initiatives.
  • Works with academic and Continuing Education teams to facilitate and manage the timely completion of required curriculum mapping as part of the broader partnership development process and objectives
  • Responsible for marketing, branding and promotion of all international partnerships, to internal and external audience.  This may include drafting press releases, updating /creating websites, creating social media campaigns with an eye to the agreed upon methods of promotion from partner institutions or government.  This will also support the overall brand of Mohawk International both nationally and internationally
  • Ensures alignment across a portfolio of projects with strategic and tactical plans for internationalization as a key driver to influencing activity to meet and exceed the partnership goals
  • Works with Academic Coordinator to recruit, enrol, engage and manage academic faculty to deliver end-to-end programs for multiple projects that are large in scope (spanning multiple business units across the College).
  • On academic projects helps to support attainment of strategic goals. This includes all elements of personnel tasking, communication, quality assurance, timeline development risk and expense management as it relates to institutional internationalization, student and faculty Mobility etc.

Policy Development, Program Planning for Language and Culture Center:

  • ​Plans programs for the Language and Culture Centre, in line with the College and division’s strategic plan and department’s strategic plan.
  • Ensures learning outcomes for all the mobility projects, joint partnership projects and summer programs are in accordance with college policies, ministry standards and partner institution’s requirements.
  • Develop partnership standards where established practices do not exist. Where appropriate, ensures adherence to external accreditation requirements.
  • Contributes to the development of college policies and operating procedures to meet needs of students, staff, client groups, community partners, government ministries/agencies.
  • Contributes to the development of new programs, pathways and articulations for Language schools and summer projects programming in collaboration with Director of International Recruitment and Business Development

Management of Mobility Projects/Joint Partnership Projects/Summer Programs:

  • Reviews Curriculum for short term programs and projects ensuring compliance with the Council of Ministers Education, Canada (CMEC) administrative guide and others as needed in support of specific projects.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, International and Exchange Students, oversees the hiring and supervision of employees for each program or project, train staff and volunteers, evaluates effectiveness of all programs, manages and monitors all budgets
  • Monitors and supervises all staff and participants in a program or project setting as top priority safety and participant, parent, agent satisfaction.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, International and Exchange Students, creates and manages the staff schedules for projects.
  • Acts as a leader in problem solving with staff, parents, participants and all required stakeholders to support any programming, discipline or participant engagement challenges
  • Works with the Dean International & Partnerships and fellow leadership team members to anticipate, identify, and resolve all program-related issues

Human Resource & Financial Management:

  • Supports the Dean by contributing to budget planning and management cycles; this includes identifying problems, problem solving, developing solutions and providing recommendations to the Dean and financial services.
  • Develops program budgets, monitors and ensures compliance and adherence to agreed upon budget for partnership activities and projects etc.
  • Establishes resource allocation priorities, both financial and personnel, to ensure maximum utilization for all initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, International and Exchange Students, determines when additional staff are required to effectively deliver the projects, summer programs and other projects related to LCC and International & Partnerships
  • Ensures a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selection, hiring, development, motivation, evaluation and training of faculty, administrative, and support staff for the mobility projects as well as any other project including summer programs etc.
  • Promotes and monitors ongoing professional development of all contract and full-time staff associated with these projects.
  • Manages the short-term program faculty or support staff consistent with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for both faculty and support staff.
  • Builds an effective team and maintains a high level of staff morale within the faculty or support staff complement.
  • Develops and maintains all operational processes for mobility projects (Global Affairs, CICan, Erasmus+, Partnership etc.) and summer program deliveries.
  • Anticipates, reports program risk to the Dean and manages these risks working collaboratively with the other managers and the Dean.

Building and Maintaining Relationships with local institutions and Organizations for student’s post arrival support:

  • Works with the Dean, International and Partnerships to build, maintain and consolidate relationships with local/GTA educational institutions and organizations to support international students in their post arrival transition, and settlement in Canada.

College-wide Support:

  • Works collaboratively within the College and International & Partnerships Department to promote strong cross-departmental activity and acts as the principle liaison.
  • Provides leadership in all the international college-wide support initiatives such as internal advisory committee, partnership support group etc.
  • Consult or coach college-wide cross functional teams with respect to ongoing international projects
  • Establishes, monitors, assesses compliance and provides feedback with respect to standard operating practices across multiple international activities

The successful applicant must have:

  • ​A 3 years Advance Diploma/4 years Bachelor’s degree inBusiness Administration, Management, Educational Administration, Sales, Travel/Tourism/Hospitality or any other related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
  • Experience with building and maintaining strong partnerships with international institutions, government and non-government agencies.
  • Experience with short term program/project/summer programs planning and implementation.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Experience with stakeholder-including students and program participants in advising, supporting and complaint management is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in at least one additional language (other than English and French).
  • An acute sense of business and be entrepreneurial when approaching new business and program opportunities, as well as have significant experience in drafting and implementing new international programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
  • Working in a time sensitive, deadline driven environment with an elevated attention to detail within a culturally diverse environment and working knowledge of the educational systems in overseas countries.
  • Experience in a similar setting, coordinating teams and projects with diverse groups.
  • Working with CRM, databases and student information systems, preferably with Banner, or any relational database in a postsecondary education.
  • Proven Strategic and analytical thinking, planning and resource management.
  • Outgoing with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong initiative, resourcefulness, problem-solving skills and demonstrated capacity for exercising sound judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to deliver effective presentations.
  • Experience with traveling and working in countries outside of North America. Overseas travel is required.
