Description

Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Manager of Student Recruitment will provide strategic leadership and oversite for Student Recruitment Services. This position plays a key role in implementing strategies that assist CNC with achieving its enrolment goals and proactively promoting the College. Working closely with internal campus colleagues and external community partners, the Manager will ensure excellent delivery of student transition and prospect services in a timely, consistent and high service level to potential students. The Manager will also assist with or initiate departmental service reviews and manage projects including, but not limited to, staff development, campaign development, and recruitment services. The impact of the decisions of this position are integral to the financial health of the institution and the strategic management of student enrolment at CNC.

NATURE & SCOPE:

• The incumbent will develop, plan, organize, coordinate, manage, and lead the day-to-day operations of Student Recruitment Services.
• The incumbent must be accessible to students, faculty, administrators, public, high school counsellors and high school administration. This is especially critical during peak workload periods.
• The role requires the incumbent to maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of the structures, agencies and processes within the public post-secondary education system in British Columbia. The incumbent will be a resource on recruitment and trends for Student Affairs.
• Effective performance will require skill in human relations and a high degree of mutual trust and credibility in order to work with people individually and collectively.
• The incumbent will demonstrate, learn and display leadership practices as a member of college committees such as: Leadership Circle, Student Affairs.
• You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.

Knowledge and Skills

• Three to five years’ experience in a Student Services or related post-secondary environment.
• Three to five years of relevant management experience in office practice including experience in direct supervision of staff.
• Experience with advanced technological student recruitment platforms with preference to Customer Relationship Management systems.
• A high degree of proficiency in computer skills and relevant post-secondary software utilization.
• Experience using and working with a post-secondary Student Information System (Colleague preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of post-secondary operations, program offerings, recruitment and admission/registration policy and procedures.
• Extensive knowledge and proven experience in student recruitment.
• Demonstrated success in budget development and management.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, execute and complete projects through a project management approach. Formal project Management training would be considered an asset.
• Understand and administers provisions of the Collective Agreements; and participates in making recommendations for changes to Collective Agreements and participate in bargaining as needed.
• Possesses compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the College.
• Conveys approachability, poise, and understanding of the student perspective.
• Outgoing and client-services oriented with exceptional interpersonal/relationship-building skills.
• Proven skills in conflict resolution and negotiations.
• Hold valid BC class 5 driver’s license. Eligible to hold a valid passport and gain entry to foreign countries.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction when planning, developing, implementing and evaluating cohesive, integrated programs and services within the Student Recruitment portfolio.
• Create a suite of new programs and services based on student data so programs are aligned to student needs and expectations and represent SEM strategic priorities.
• Develop a robust assessment and outcomes approach to programs and services to ensure quality control and effective measures.
• Oversee the staffing requirements of the Student Recruitment department. Lead, plan, organize and direct staff.
• Acquire knowledge of new and current trends and employ that knowledge with staff in the creation of student transitions and student recruitment strategies.
• Employ new services and programs, embedded with student development principles and practice with other student support services within the College.
• Develop and implement an institutional strategy for domestic student recruitment to meet the goals of the College within a competitive market place.
• Create targeted strategies for identified prospect groups such as: Indigenous, Mature, and transfers students.
• Establish institutional collaborative priorities for staff to engage in proactive recruitment strategies.
• Determine measurement criteria and prepare detailed analyses of data related to the student recruitment funnel.
• Engage in and lead staff to gain and maintain an in-depth understanding of Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM).
• Engage in various College committees such as SEM Marketing & Recruitment Committee and Student Affairs Leadership Team.
• Initiate, co-develop and support program and/or faculty level recruitment activities.
• Work collaboratively and aligns with International Education department in relation to the international student recruitment strategy.
• Lead projects from planning to implementation. This may include, but is not limited to, budgeting, resource allocation, documentation, training and managing consultants.
• Work with internal partners to offer a foundational baseline of program and services within a coordinated timeline.
• Facilitate with College partners on-campus, and off campus recruitment and special activities to support student recruitment for the College.
• Lead the acquisition, development and implementation of new software and expanded web-based services.
• Responsible for altering and augmenting recruitment activities to meet the interests and needs of prospective students, their supporters and the needs of the College.
• Develop and update student recruitment materials in coordination with Communications and Marketing.
• Promote BCCAT and other educational transfer agreements.
• Coordinate and oversee engagement with High School counselors.
• Responsible for maintaining relationships with local and regional school districts and regional campuses.
• Work closely with regional campuses administration to strengthen existing and develop new links for consistent recruitment activities.
• Attend and participate in off campus recruitment activities as needed.
• Plan, manages and facilitates on-going professional development for self and team members continual improvement and adoption of evolving best practices.
• Use independent decision-making and creativity to assess, create, and enhance the Student Recruitment Service’s business processes, research, develop and implement technological solutions wherever possible to streamline process, capture prospect data and build innovative practices.
• Conduct and participate in process reviews and analyses. Provide recommendations and proposals to the Associate Registrar.
• Develop long-term department service plans to provide continuous improvements to Recruitment Services and larger Student Affairs teams.
• Develop annual budget plans in consultation with the Associate Registrar.
• Engagement in emerging responsibilities as required.
• Perform other responsibilities and duties related to the functions and services of the Recruitment Services as assigned by the Associate Registrar.

Education

• Minimum four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Preference for education in social services, education, business management; equivalencies will be considered.
