Vice President, Finance & Administration

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President, Finance & Administration is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The incumbent is responsible for the management, leadership, and oversight of three main areas: Finance, Information Technology, and Facilities and Ancillary Services. The incumbent will support the vision, mission, values, and goals of the institution, and will work with internal and external partners to this end. Providing information to support decision-making, collaboration, and teamwork in a diverse and inclusive environment combined with the ability to conduct business in a manner that is ethical, confidential, and in a manner that creates trust, is essential to this position.

Leadership and Management

  • Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethics
  • Oversee fiscal and physical resources, ensuring sustainability
  • Lead, mentor, and support direct reports and their teams
  • Contribute meaningfully to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Deliver presentations and facilitate key discussions
  • Set performance expectations and conduct reviews
  • Oversee IT infrastructure to support institutional success
  • Identify, monitor, and mitigate financial and operational risks
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ensure effective maintenance of College facilities
  • Resolve complex challenges with strategic problem-solving
  • Lead and participate in key committees

Strategic Direction

  • Advise on financial strategy, IT infrastructure, and facilities management to align with institutional objectives
  • Provide expertise on short and long-term strategic initiatives
  • Anticipate and address evolving internal and external needs
  • Support data-driven decision-making to advance College goals
  • Apply business acumen to ensure sound financial and operational planning

Fiscal Accountability, Ethics, and Integrity

  • Enforce compliance with all applicable legislation, policies, and regulations
  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and transparency
  • Lead the preparation of annual financial statements and reports
  • Provide the President & CEO with confidence in financial integrity and sustainability
  • Oversee investment portfolio performance and regulatory compliance
  • Advise the President & CEO on financial investments and resource allocation
  • Direct financial planning, forecasting, and budget oversight

Innovation

  • Implement policies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of financial data
  • Identify and execute innovative solutions to emerging challenges
  • Leverage institutional strengths to drive new opportunities
  • Introduce contemporary business and financial management practices
  • Champion sustainable initiatives that benefit the College

Collaboration and Relationships

  • Support the President & CEO in both internal and external relations
  • Foster strong relationships with the Government of Alberta, provincial partners, and external organizations
  • Represent the College in key meetings and stakeholder engagements
  • Develop and deliver presentations and strategic communications
  • Maintain professional relationships with legal, audit, and investment advisors
  • Cultivate an open and supportive organizational culture
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications & Education Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Professional Chartered Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent, with an outstanding record of success. Required is a minimum of five years of experience in a senior level finance or administrative position in a complex organization, experience working in a unionized environment, experience in a supervisory role, and an understanding of the public sector. The ability to perform, and lead a team, at a high level in a faced-paced environment with competing demands and expectations is essential. A depth of understanding of higher education administration, specifically an appreciation of the Alberta higher education system, would be considered a significant asset.

Financial Management: Leads with a strong sense of service and efficiency and ensures timely and accurate financial planning and reporting
