Reporting to the Board of Governors, the President and CEO is responsible for innovative, visionary leadership and drives the strategic direction for all aspects of the academic and business affairs of Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC). The President and CEO is a valued partner in the community, committed to the community college concept and passionate about the role GPRC plays in the lives of its communities and residents. The President and CEO advises the Board and recommends actions to address both current and emerging issues in the field of education and ensures the College’s policies and programs result in the attainment of the long-term goals and objectives of the Board.

Duties and Responsibilities

The President and CEO is expected to:

  • Set a climate of creative achievement through leadership and the development of a proactive, dynamic and flexible organization
  • Actively establish and maintain highly effective, consultative and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including academic and support staff, students, the community, elected members of government, and senior government officials
  • Anticipate and balance the needs of these multiple stakeholders without compromising the organizational requirements to drive success
  • Establish and maintain a high profile and positive College image, including acting as the College spokesperson with other institutions, government departments, schools, and agencies
  • Ensure short and long-term financial stability of the College, including effective financial and business planning and management processes
  • Keep the Board informed and supported in its work
  • Ensure that the College operates within the intent of all enabling and regulatory legislation and governing policies

Education

The President and CEO is energetic and committed to creating strong ties within the region. The President and CEO is a confident leader who demonstrates a commitment to the values of GPRC and operates with an innate sense of honesty, integrity, and fairness. In addition, the President and CEO will have proven accomplishments in the following areas:

  • Broad and diverse experience in senior leadership of large and complex organizations, within the public and and/or private sectors, which will ideally include the post-secondary education environment
  • Building strong working relationships with three orders of government, the business community, industry, Indigenous communities and other public agencies
  • Effective leadership through institutional transitions
  • A strong commitment to and appreciation of academic excellence
  • Working effectively with an appointed Board that operates within a Policy Governance™ framework
  • Experience in delivering courses at the post-secondary level preferred, with demonstrated ability and commitment to student-centred learning
  • Demonstrated appreciation of the economic environment in a northern community is preferred
  • Experience overseeing large, complex budgets
  • Proven development and advancement of financial success and maintaining strong relationships with donors
  • Graduate degree required, with a Ph.D. being strongly preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered, including academic and business backgrounds
