Northern Lakes College serves a vast region of Northern Alberta with 24 campuses and 5 CAP sites located from Athabasca to High Level. The Hub Campuses for Northern Lakes College are Slave Lake, High Prairie, Peace River and High Level, with spoke campuses surrounding each of these communities. NLC also has numerous collaborative partnerships with other Campus Alberta partners to offer programs in their communities or to support their programs in our communities. NLC also offers a wide range of Dual Credit opportunities and has over 20 active partnerships with School Boards throughout the province.
NLC is a Distance Learning College with 90% of our programs available to students using our innovative Supported Distance Learning model. NLC serves approximately 1600 credit students and 6000 non-credit and we are continually growing. NLC offers a wide range of programs in the Health Sciences, Human Services, Business and Information Technology, Administrative Studies, University Studies, Basic and Preparatory, Trades and Technology as well as Continuing Education and Corporate Training. NLC will be adding Environmental and Culinary Arts programming in the 2021 Academic year.
NLC has a close relationship with our stakeholders. NLC has adopted a Community Education Committee structure that is the primary advisory body to the Board of Governors of NLC. These committees and the Council of Community Education Committees are an important part of the fabric of NLC. As well, NLC has developed a strong governance model to support the operations of the College and ensure that our Mission, Values and Vision are guiding operations.
NLC is seeking a President who is the chief advocate and a champion for our Supported Distance Learning model, is driven by the development and nurturing of relationships with our stakeholders, communities and partners and can advocate appropriately with the Ministry and other government officials on behalf of the College. With a budget in excess of $40M annually the President will manage the resources effectively with a key focus on Accessibility, Excellence, Respect, Collaboration, Community and Lifelong Learning. NLC is seeking a President with outstanding relationship building skills, a passion for distance learning and strong management skills.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, the President & CEO of Northern Lakes College is the chief advocate and champion for the Supported Distance Learning model. With a commitment to inclusive and transparent leadership, the successful candidate will demonstrate an inherent ability to build partnerships and capacity for this growing and responsive post-secondary institutions. With a budget in excess of $40 million, the President will engage and inspire staff, faculty and students to continue to provide innovative program and service delivery models that leverage best practices in distance education.
Leading a team of 7 professionals (Vice President, Academic, Executive Director, Human Resources and Health and Safety, Executive Director, Student Services, Executive Director, Finance and Chief Information Officer, Director, External Relations and Senior Director, Facilities and Ancillary Services), the President and CEO and their team sets a climate of creative achievement through leadership and the development of a proactive, dynamic and flexible institution.
The President & CEO actively establishes and maintains highly effective, consultative and productive working relations with internal and external stakeholders for the College. These stakeholders include academic and support staff, students, the community, elected members of government, senior government officials, Indigenous, First Nation and Métis Elders, Communities and Bands, public education leaders (K-12), industry partners and business and corporate leaders.
The President & CEO’s office is at the Slave Lake campus. There will be frequent travel throughout the region served.
The President & CEO is energetic and committed to creating strong ties within the region. The incumbent is a confident leader who demonstrates a commitment to the values of NLC and operates with an innate sense of honesty, integrity and fairness. In addition, the President & CEO will have proven accomplishments in the following areas:
- Broad and diverse experience in senior leadership of large and complex organizations, within the public and private sectors, which will ideally include the post-secondary education environment with a particular knowledge in distance learning.
- Build strong working relationships with indigenous communities, government, the business community, industry and other public agencies.
- Leading effectively through significant times of change within the post-secondary environment.
The President & CEO will possess appropriate post graduate education, with demonstrated interest and commitment to ongoing professional and personal development.
