Loyalist is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and humble leader with a passion for student success who, as its new Senior Vice President, Academic (SVPA), will provide inspirational, visionary and collaborative academic leadership and work with a highly dedicated, talented team to enable the College to achieve its mission: “Loyalist College empowers students, faculty, staff, and partners through experiential, economic, cluster-based applied programs and research that provide career-ready graduates for, and knowledge transfer to, industry and the community.”

Reporting to the President, you will participate in the overall management of the College as a member of the President’s senior management team, and will be responsible for the leadership of the Academic, Enrolment Services, International, Applied Research, Indigenous Centre and Student Success portfolios, including their human, financial and physical resources. Both strategic and collaborative in approach, with a proven ability to lead, plan and manage teams of professionals and operations in a complex, diverse environment, you welcome this opportunity to contribute to the College’s continuing growth and financial viability, developing and delivering on the College’s strategic goals, while engaging and collaborating with students, faculty, staff and the external community.

The SVPA mandate will make you the senior academic officer of the College, accountable for setting the strategic direction, planning, organizing, staffing and management of the College’s academic operations, as well as for the content and delivery of Loyalist’s post-secondary and non-post-secondary full-time and part-time academic programs and student services. With a history of leading or inspiring the development and implementation of new, innovative, ahead-of-the-curve programs and leading-edge service delivery options, you are also prepared to be the primary source of advice, advocacy and the provision of student services that enhance the quality of education and student life, and to lead, empower and support an exceptional team of academic and administrative leaders.

As the successful candidate for this senior role, you will have at least a master’s degree (a PhD is preferred), with evidence of continuous learning, and progressive leadership and management experience in higher education or a similar environment. This is complemented by lived or working experience in a smaller, more rural community, classroom teaching experience, and a proven track record in developing and implementing a successful Academic/Learning-focused Plan (as the leader or a key participant), in long-term strategic enrolment management planning, and in forging strong links between academic/learning programs and student services and support.

Both a team player and a team builder, adept at leading change with and through people, you are also a skilled relationship builder, able to develop sustained, successful partnerships with industry, business and community leaders, and to inspire, lead, manage and engage a strong academic team (faculty, administrative and support staff) and hold them accountable.

Given the strong international component among Loyalist’s student population, your experience working with a significant number of international students will prove invaluable, especially in ensuring the right resources and supports for their successful integration into the College and the community. Equally important, you have demonstrated a commitment to inclusion and equity, and the intersectionality of diversity, together with the ability to win trust, rally people around a shared vision, and deliver planned results.
