Algonquin is seeking an experienced academic leader as its new Senior Vice President, Academic. Reporting to the President, and as a member of the Algonquin College Executive Team (ACET), you will continue to distinguish and transform Algonquin College as “the college of tomorrow” by providing highly skilled leadership and stewardship of the academic division to ensure excellence in teaching and learning, accomplish the College’s current 2017 – 2022 Strategic Plan “50+5”, launch the development of a new Strategic Plan in 2021, and successfully implement and execute Algonquin’s bold new “Learner-driven Strategy”.
Knowledge and Skills
The successful candidate will hold relevant advanced academic credentials (Masters’ level is required; a Ph.D. is desirable, but not mandatory,) and bring proven senior academic leadership and management experience from within a complex, Canadian postsecondary education environment. Confident, creative, entrepreneurial, and able to successfully inspire, lead, manage, support and empower others, Algonquin’s new Senior Vice-President, Academic, will be strategically minded, while highly focussed and grounded, bringing progressive experience in teaching, learning, academic planning, operations, quality, and implementation. A proven ability to collaborate, communicate, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
The SVP Academic will be accountable for the overall planning, direction, development, delivery, and quality assurance of all full- and part-time post-secondary and non-post-secondary academic programs and services. The role will ensure excellence in curricula and teaching, strategic planning, faculty recruitment, accreditation and development, academic policies, budgeting, and establishing community and industry partnerships. The SVP Academic will provide leadership to a large and passionate professional team of academic leaders and managers including: the Executive Director, Academic Operations and Planning; the Dean of Academic Development; the Deans of the various Schools, Faculties and Institutes, Pembroke and Perth regional campuses, and the Online campus.
