Alberta University of the Arts (“AUArts”) is a public, board-governed university operating as an undergraduate university under the authority of the Post-Secondary Learning Act of Alberta. As the only post-secondary institution in the prairie provinces devoted exclusively to advanced education, practice, and research in visual culture, design, and associated and emergent fields, Alberta University of the Arts offers four-year undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees, preparing learners for careers in visual culture and design.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Advancement provides strategic leadership to AUArts’ integrated advancement program, including marketing and communications, branding, internal and external community relations, government relations, fundraising and alumni relations to support AUArts’ mission, mandate, vision, values and goals.




Knowledge and Skills

The Vice President, Advancement will be an experienced, collaborative leader and manager with professional experience in marketing and communications, alumni relations and government relations, or similar experience building and promoting deep, collaborative relationships. You will plan, execute and direct strategies to enhance public awareness of AUArts and leverage the new university status to further engage the community in active and innovative support of the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Vice President manages the image of the institution, develops and executes its media relations strategy, including branding, market research and issues identification. The incumbent develops and maintains a government relations strategy and works with elected and appointed Government of Alberta officials and various government departments including Advanced Education. The Vice President works closely with members of the Board of Governors and in particular, the Advancement committee.


The ideal candidate brings a minimum of ten years’ experience in advancement or community relations with work experience in one of the advancement areas. You will have a track record of building strong donor relationships and the ability to build effective relations with internal and external communities. You will ideally have a post-secondary degree in a related field, a passion for the arts and student success, and as well as respect and support for diversity.
