Job Title Associate Dean – Centre for Justice and Human Services
Hours per week/FTE 35
Responsibilities Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean provides academic and administrative leadership that supports students, faculty, and staff within the academic Centre. The Associate Dean will promote teaching excellence within a learner-centred environment and foster a culture of scholarly activity. Key responsibilities include contributing to Centre strategic planning; providing leadership and direct supervision to faculty and support staff; the recruitment and selection of outstanding faculty; participating in a variety of internal and external committees that contribute to the success of the College; working with partner groups and program advisory committees; as well as establishing and maintaining budgets. The Associate Dean will facilitate and actively participate in the development and implementation of new academic programs and the ongoing review of existing programs in response to changing economic and market pressures within industry, college, and ministry standards and guidelines to ensure an exceptional standard of excellence. The Associate Dean will also have a proven ability to work collaboratively across all organizational lines and divisions in advancing institutional goals.


Job Duties • Development and maintenance of curriculum in the Centre
• Development and monitoring of strategic and operational plans for designated areas of responsibility
• Management and mentoring of faculty
Management of the operating structures, policies, procedures, and communications relevant to the Centre
• Innovative solutions to complex problems while ensuring compliance to college policies and procedures
• Supporting program development and implementation
• Supporting student success by working with students and faculty members, and, as required, to address performance and/or academic issues
• Innovative ideas and approaches for new projects and entrepreneurial activities
• New program initiatives and proposals 
Required Qualifications • Master’s degree—with preference for the Doctorate—in a discipline relevant to the Centre’s focus
• Extensive curriculum/program development or leadership
• A minimum of three to five years of experience leading and coordinating the work of other faculty and staff within a unionized environment, preparing and monitoring budgets, and performing program planning and administrative work in higher education
• Proven ability to supervise and provide leadership to faculty and staff within a post-secondary environment and context
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering the principles of learner-centeredness with a history of championing student success
• Strong emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills with the ability to connect and communicate with people while demonstrating patience and compassion
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem solving skills
• Proven success with faculty and staff development
• Ability to work collaboratively with Deans and other academic and administrative leaders
• Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and the management of change initiatives 
Preferred Qualifications
Salary Starting at $104,063 to $122,427 per annum; commensurate with education and experience.
