Job Description

SAIT supports student success and excellence in learning and teaching through the department of Learner and Academic Services (LAS). Committed to enhancing student experience and engaging the SAIT community, LAS comprises a variety of portfolios, programming and service units. Through these outstanding learner and academic support services, the department helps to create a culture — both inside and outside the classroom — that allows students to meet their educational goals, achieve their greatest potential and start strong in their careers.

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President of Learner and Academic Services (LAS), you will be accountable for the leadership of key areas in LAS. You will focus on strategic execution for key areas such as the career exploration centre, youth engagement and initiatives, indigenous strategies, library re-design, co-curricular activities, student employment centre, global academic partnerships, articulation, Lamb learning centre, student development and counselling, and pathways by enhancing the service and support systems to ensure all students of SAIT have the access and opportunity to participate.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Mindset:

  • Develop and execute strategic plan for the above areas that align with SAIT strategic priorities and educational plan
  • Enhance profile of Career Exploration Centre to increase demand
  • Increase activity for Student Employment Centre and Co-Curricular
  • Implement mental health strategy
  • Increase study abroad initiatives that include international internships, semester exchanges and enhanced study tours
  • Develop a protocol for internal pathways at SAIT including admission of ELF/AU students directly into programs, pathways in programs, and flexible programming options
  • Increase dual credit, summer camps, and other youth initiatives
  • Develop a flexible model for service and supports

Coach & Develop:

  • Oversee the areas of: Learner Lamb Services, Student Development and Counselling, Student Experience and the Library which includes a team of approximately 70 employees.
  • Delegate in accordance with team responsibilities and priorities in conjunction with overall department goals

Communication and Influence:

  • Assess the efficiency of workflow and ensures professional interaction and problem solving

Accountability and Excellence:

  • Plan, coordinate and manage projects from point of creation, development, implementation, and review/inspection
  • Facilitate and coordinate sub-committees reporting to LAS
  • Direct and monitor processes to ensure efficiency and goal attainment
  • Accountable for driving the $20 million dollar capital campaign for youth engagement
  • Implement a system of service and supports for all students at SAIT
  • Advocate for library re-design to enhance student learning
  • Ensure proper protocol is followed for government interaction in terms of funding models


Collaborate with various internal stakeholders including: Senior Leadership, Academic Chairs, Deans, Office of the Registrar, Finance, Communications and Marketing


  • Master’s degree in related discipline (Counselling Psychology, Student Affairs/Services, Higher Education, Education Administration or other related field
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in student services support positions including demonstrated leadership in the field of student learning and development
  • Development and management of programming and services designed to enhance student well-being, success and learning
  • Combined work experience and education may be considered
  • Proven record of leadership and experience managing staff in a unionized environment
  • Experience planning and managing budgets
  • Knowledge of post-secondary systems, policies and initiatives
