Job Description

Saskatchewan Polytechnic serves 28,000 distinct students (16.000 full load equivalent) through applied learning opportunities at campuses in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon and through an extensive range of distance education opportunities. It is the province’s only polytechnic and its primary institution for post-secondary applied education and research.

The CFO and VP Administrative Services is accountable to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for providing leadership to all Administrative Services thereby ensuring alignment of services that effectively support academic programming and operational goals. He/she advocates the direction set by the Board of Directors and President by actively participating in the development of Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Multi Year Business Plan. The CFO provides strategic leadership in the areas of facility planning and development, financial services, human resources, and information technology.

The CFO will be expected to bring a strong track record of innovation to managing these functional areas, particularly with regards to:

  • Streamlining the financial portfolio and bringing creative approaches to revenue generation to lessen dependence on government grants
  • Building an information technology ecosystem that meets the current and future requirements of students, faculty and staff
  • The use of data-analytics for decision making
  • Working collaboratively with the unions and continuing to build an agile workforce while planning for succession
  • Working with ancillary services on new ideas for revenue generation
  • Focusing on the Saskatoon Campus Renewal as a key priority

The CFO provides leadership to their team of 5 people in formulating the vision, goals, direction and policies for the Administrative Services units which are consistent with Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s overall strategic goals. As a member of the Senior Management Council (SMC), the CFO liaises and negotiates with government agencies and the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Board of Directors on matters related to operations, planning and budgeting matters.

Position requirements include a graduate degree in a relevant field such as business administration or finance along with a CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA) with at least 10 years of experience in a senior management and a CFO role. Leadership of a large and diverse range of functions is required. Experience in a multi-campus educational setting or similar complex public sector environment would be an asset, as well as, previous experience working with a Board of Directors and a variety of external stakeholders, including all levels of government, and various national, provincial and local agencies.
