Chair – Business, Technology & Outdoor Training
(Pembroke Waterfront Campus)

Picture a bustling small town and economic hub where you will work in a brand new state-of-the-art Waterfront Campus that is surrounded by natural beauty. With a history of providing excellent student support services, great teaching and small class sizes, Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley is celebrating its fifth year at the brand new Pembroke Waterfront Campus with expanding enrolments and new programs. Nestled along the shores of the Ottawa River, you can walk, ride or jog along the waterfront walkway or read a book in the nearby Riverwalk Amphitheatre in between classes. The park setting where the new campus is located makes it a picturesque setting and a destination for students, where they will find both unique and traditional college programs. The College is seeking a new Chair – Business, Technology & Outdoor Training to be located at the Pembroke Waterfront Campus.


Reporting to the Dean of Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley (Pembroke Waterfront Campus), and working closely with faculty and staff, the Chair provides broad academic, instructional and visioning leadership to a diverse range of certificate, diploma, degree, and apprenticeship programs offered on the campus, including: Business, Outdoor Adventure, Outdoor Adventure Naturalist, Forestry Technician, and Environmental Technician programs – as well as the newly created “Action Sports Park Development” program – a one-of-a-kind offering in Canada!


In collaboration with faculty and staff, the Chair will provide solid academic leadership in program/curriculum development, design and evaluation, applied research and experiential learning to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Exercising vision and creativity, the Chair will be responsible for aligning the strategic direction of the department with the College’s Strategic Plan, and ensure that program offerings are responsive and relevant to the needs of the students and the community at large, as well as developing and implementing new initiatives, as required, to reflect changing technology, economic and market influences and employment opportunities.


Candidates for the role should ideally possess a relevant Master’s Degree (consideration will be given to an in-progress Master’s credential), complemented with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management, Business or a related discipline to programs in the portfolio. The successful candidate will bring several years (9 or more) of relevant work experience from within a unionized post-secondary environment, including teaching experience, and time spent in a supervisory/leadership or management role. The candidate will bring a demonstrated knowledge of quality education and instruction, curriculum development, adult learning and teaching strategies. Outstanding interpersonal, communication skills, negotiation, conflict management and problem-solving skill, in addition to strong organizational planning and sound business skills are sought. The successful candidate will have knowledge of, and experience in the delivery of online curriculum using a wide range of technologies and a demonstrated commitment to student success, teaching excellence, quality education and applied research, with the proven ability to engage with external groups, individual and partners.
