Job Title Dean, Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation
Hours per week/FTE 35
Responsibilities Reporting to the Provost and Vice President Academic, the Dean for the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation (CTLI) is a collaborative, consultative, proactive and future focused leader who provides vision and leadership in support and promotion of centre operations and teaching and learning initiatives.

We are looking for candidates that lead with positivity and bring passion, energy, expertise, and experience related to excellence in teaching, learning, and innovation. The successful candidate will have a track record of building and working effectively with high functioning, multidisciplinary teams and fit within a vibrant, energetic and innovative team that is focused on student and instructor success.

The Dean is a member of the Provost and VPA’s leadership team, Deans’ Council, as well as the College Leadership Council (CLC), with accountability for promoting and implementing the college’s vision, mission, values and strategic direction. The Dean is responsible for effective and efficient centre management and has a significant leadership role working collaboratively with other leaders throughout the institution to set overall strategic directions and achieve institutional outcomes.

The Dean leads the CTLI teams, including Learning Experience Design, Digital Learning, Audio Visual, Library, Learning and Development, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), and Learning Services (Learning Cafe, Accessibility Services, Testing Services) in support of all academic centres and programs.

Job Duties Specific Responsibilities:

Leadership in Teaching and Learning Excellence:

  • In collaboration with fellow members of Deans’ Council, lead the implementation of an evaluation framework for pilots and projects that is aligned with the Comprehensive Institutional Plan to enable ongoing improvement and iterative development
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Support emerging learning communities
  • Work with the CTLI Leaders to conduct ongoing assessment of programs and services to ensure iterative improvement of centre activities
  • Champion healthy and active learning environments
  • Chair the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Council
  • Commit to building a culture of scholarship

Programming, Curriculum, and Instruction

  • Work collaboratively with academic centre leadership in the program review process to ensure program relevancy, viability and sustainability
  • Support the establishment of the program development, renewal, suspension and termination process in collaboration with other centres
  • Support development and implementation of flexible learning initiatives

Library

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners to provide seamless access to high quality resources Support development of innovative and flexible informal learning spaces
  • Support development of dynamic and comprehensive service model to meet students’ learning needs

Learning Services (Accessibility Services, Testing Services, and Learning Cafe)

  • Foster inclusive and accessible academic support services, flexible learning environments, and innovative educational technologies in support of diverse student populations
  • Champion Universal Design Principles
  • Support development of innovative assessment facilities, services, and practices
  • Encourage comprehensive approaches to academic learning support, student success, and retention

Educational Technology

  • Provide leadership for planning, developing, implementing, and assessing college wide learning technologies and flexible delivery methods and supports
  • Support the identification and acquisition of technology that meets the needs of program and college initiatives

Faculty Professional Development

  • Provide leadership for the design and delivery of faculty professional development activities, including the Instructional Certificate Program

Leadership in Human Resource Management

  • Coach, mentor and guide direct reports to build leadership capacity within the team
  • Engage and empower faculty and staff
  • Facilitate goal setting and performance management Direct new staff recruitment/selection/orientation
  • Mediate interpersonal conflicts
  • Facilitate healthy, productive work environments

Leadership in Financial Management

  • Plan and administer budget
  • Promote partnership funding approaches for teaching and learning initiatives
  • Nurture resource management skills of managers/supervisors
Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Education or related discipline and 3 to 5 years directly related experience or equivalent in a post-secondary environment
  • Post-secondary teaching experience and well-developed teaching, research, and assessment skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, including instructors, chairs, deans, administration, and staff
  • Current knowledge of emerging trends and issues in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Confident working with new educational technology resources and devices
Preferred Qualifications
Salary $119,989 – $141,163 per annum; commensurate with education and experience.
