Deputy Registrar

Salary Range: $87,784 – $117,047

Reporting to the Executive Director/Registrar, the Deputy Registrar leads the Student Recruitment portfolio, the Admission Services portfolio, as well as acts on behalf of the Executive Director as required. The incumbent is responsible for the development and administration of college-wide student recruitment and admissions functions in support of the enrolment objectives of the institution. The incumbent is accountable for the development and implementation/evaluation of recruitment, admissions and conversion strategies; including research, tracking and analysis of enrolments in order to achieve the College’s objectives. The incumbent works closely with the Executive Director/Registrar in the preparation and presentation of recommendations to the Senior Executive Team and the academic schools as it pertains to budget and recruitment enrolment targets.

 

The Deputy Registrar will be responsible for playing a lead role in working with all appropriate stakeholders to develop and implement new strategies and initiatives for the recruitment and admission of specifically targeted student groups. In addition, the Deputy Registrar is expected to represent the Executive Director/Registrar as necessary at senior executive team meetings and committee and working group meetings, both internally and externally. In this capacity, the incumbent may be expected to make decisions on behalf Executive Director/Registrar and to report back to the team on these matters.

 

The Deputy Registrar is responsible for identifying new target markets and for contributing to the development of long/short term marketing and communications strategies. This includes responsibility for a broad range of college-wide enrolment activities as well as overseeing the provision of effective customer service and communications via the internet, the customer relationship management system (CRM), print media, presentations, in-person, telephone and other means from initial point of contact through to registration. The development and implementation of the annual enrolment plan, including communication strategies (including the full-time college guide, view book and the many information pieces directed at potential applicants) is carried out in a changing and highly competitive environment.

 

The successful candidate will oversee the credit transfer and prior learning assessment processes at the college. Responsibilities include the development of college strategies which streamline the application and approval processes and support provincial credit transfer objectives. In addition, this role oversees marketing and communicating of post-secondary pathway opportunities at Durham College. Also included in this portfolio is responsibility for the oversight of the Second Career and WSIB contracts with the College and the staff that work in these areas. The incumbent must ensure that all requirements of these two initiatives are fulfilled.

 

The Deputy Registrar is also responsible for the effective recruitment, training and supervision of the Student Recruitment and Admission Services staff within this portfolio. While modeling exemplary respect and customer service, the incumbent will monitor the overall human resources and budgetary needs and ensure that policies and procedures are compliant with Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) directives. In collaboration with key college stakeholders, this individual will play a pivotal role in positioning Durham College as the college of choice in Ontario.

 

The successful candidate will be a proven leader who demonstrates superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, excellent strategic planning and decision making abilities as well as exceptional ability to motivate staff to achieve a high level of performance while consistently providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced post-secondary institution. In addition, the successful candidate will possess: knowledge of Ontario secondary and post-secondary educational structures, curriculum, policies and procedures; proven understanding of the principles of strategic enrolment management, and experience in the implementation of SEM strategies; sound knowledge of Student Information Systems and the integration with a provincial application system (OCAS); in-depth knowledge of MAESD binding policies, frameworks and directives related to admissions and recruitment; and proven ability to create reports, analyze data, abstract trends, and draw effective conclusions to develop creative and innovative solutions to meet recruitment and enrolment objectives.

 

The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a four-year undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, along with minimum of ten years related progressive, demonstrated enrolment management experience at a senior level in a post-secondary registrarial environment. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage a heavy workload while maintaining attention to detail and be proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications.

The successful incumbent will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
