This role will be fully responsible for all associated activities, assets, and ventures associated with OCCI.
Reporting to the Vice President of Development and Strategy, the Director, Applied Research will provide leadership to the college’s entrepreneurial education and applied research activities. Key responsibilities include implementing the Growing 2025, Olds College Strategic plan in alignment with the Comprehensive Institutional Plan (CIP) through day-to-day management of activities, staff supervision, staff development, policy, planning, budgets, project management, and administration process aimed at enhancing the College’s educational programs and related opportunities for students. The Director participates actively as a member of the College Leadership Team and contributes to the overall leadership of the College in the Community.
As a leader within the organization, the Director, Applied Research will focus on both the efficiency and effectiveness of existing applied research projects, and the overarching direction and expansion of applied research at Olds College. This will include enhancing the procurement of applied research funds, expanding cross-College collaboration, achieving high-quality standards and outcomes, and complying with expanding requirements by provincial, national and international funders. Business development and stewardship of industry partnerships will be critical.
The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in a related field with three to five years of successful experience in a post-secondary learning environment, at least three of which will have been in a research and/or project management role. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a history of strong relationships with the industries and government departments served by Olds College.
Demonstrated leadership in relationship building, critical thinking and decision making with a commitment to discretion, sound judgment and innovation; Highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication, project management, marketing, public relations and business case development skills are required to create and sustain healthy relationships with industry, government, professional and post-secondary communities.
