Job Description

Since 1970, Douglas College has been offering students pathways to their chosen careers. The current Director, Finance has been with the organization for more than 25 years and recently announced that she will retire January 31, 2018. With the support of the Vice President, Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer and under the incumbent’s steady leadership, the finance department has earned the trust of the executive team and Board, and the confidence of departments and faculties inside Douglas College. The incumbent’s long tenure, knowledge, commitment and passion for the organization have contributed significantly to the organization’s success and financial health.

With this retirement, a new strategic financial leader is being sought to play an active role in helping Douglas further build on its financial and operational performance. The Director, Finance will report to the Vice President, Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer, and will bring experience leading a broad team that has responsibility for the following functional pieces: budgeting, financial and enrolment reporting, payroll & benefits, investment management, internal controls, financial risk management and strategic decision support.

As the ideal candidate, you are a finance professional with a track record of success as a consistent and effective leader. You have deep experience in the public sector, and the inclusion of post-secondary experience will be seen as a clear asset. You have been instrumental in the development and execution of strategies that elevate the institutional decision making, efficient business discipline, reporting and risk management. You are a collaborative and respectful leader and contributor who brings a can-do attitude and enjoys finding solutions to problems that meet multiple stakeholder needs. You are considered a strong, supportive leader who believes in developing your team.
