The Instructor, Heavy Equipment Operator will be required to instruct in the Heavy Equipment Operator Program and must be devoted to developing and delivering quality programs and courses and promoting positive career development of adult students within communities of the Northwest Territories. The Instructor is responsible for the planning, organization, instruction, delivery and evaluation of educational programming for adults. The incumbent is responsible for instructing courses in the Heavy Equipment Operator Program, evaluating the courses, supervising students in practical environments, and recommending changes/improvements as required. The incumbent manages and maintains a learning environment which is conducive to providing the highest level of education possible within their area of specialization. The Instructor may be required to teach courses or modules in community locations or other campuses from time to time as required by the design format of the particular program.
Applicants must have knowledge and understanding of adult education theory, program design, development, management, delivery and evaluation as well as detailed theoretical and practical understanding of specific subject matter of instruction. The ability to research and update course materials and delivery methods to maintain current programs is required. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, as well as good organizational and computer skills are also required.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Typically the knowledge, skills and abilities would be acquired through completion of a Grade 12 Diploma, three (3) years’ experience in the field as a Heavy Equipment Operator, two (2) years’ instructional experience in the field of Heavy Equipment Operation in a post-secondary institution and/or supervising Heavy Equipment Operators, and two (2) years’ experience working in the Northern transportation sector. Completion of an Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate in Heavy Equipment Operator, certification in CPR/First Aid, a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Northern education issues, and coursework or certification in adult education would be assets.
The incumbent in this position will be required to travel occasionally.
Driver’s License Requirement
A mandatory requirement for this position is a valid Class 1 Driver’s License with air endorsement.
Adult Education Coursework Req
If you have not already completed a certificate in Adult Education, you will be required to complete a certificate in Adult Education within five (5) years of employment as an Instructor with Aurora College.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary for this position starts at $44.75 per hour (approximately $87,263.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $6,167.00.
