Job Description

A unique opportunity for a visionary senior academic leader with a passion for student learning and a reputation for developing engaged teams and bringing about change, to build on the success of Holland College as it delivers on its mission of “Learning for Life in a Dynamic World.”

Located in Charlottetown, Holland College is the provincial community college of Prince Edward Island (PEI). The College takes its name and educational philosophy from its namesake, Samuel Holland, an 18th century surveyor who was well-known for his passion for progress and new technology. Over the past ten years, Holland College has grown its reputation as a leading post-secondary, applied learning institution in Canada—achieved by the efforts and passion of its truly committed leaders, faculty and staff.

The College offers more than 65 diploma, certificate, apprenticeship and upgrading programs in a wide range of industry-driven disciplines, on 13 campuses and centres across the province. With a vision “To be a leader in relevant, applied learning in our provincial, national, and international communities”, Holland College makes student success its top priority.

Holland College is seeking an innovative, learning-centered President who will be a visible and involved leader in the College’s campuses and the communities they serve. Inclusive and visionary, you are such a leader and welcome the opportunity to be a champion and advocate of Holland College – internally and externally – and a strong steward of its mission, vision and values.

As the new President, you will lead a diverse, talented senior leadership team and build an open, trusting relationship with the Chair and Board of Governors, while building on current partnerships and growing new ones, across PEI and Canada, to advance the College’s strategic goals. Proactive and mindful of recent and anticipated trends, opportunities and challenges, you will propose and enact Strategic Plans that set out well-defined objectives while reflecting the evolving needs of individuals, employers and communities, including annual business planning and regular reporting.

With your business and financial acumen and superb skills as a communicator, listener and consensus-builder, you will work actively to grow revenues and ensure the financial health and vitality of the College, ensure good governance and effective policies, and champion a student experience of programs and services that lives up to the College’s mission. You will lead innovation and change to set the College apart working collaboratively with government and PEI’s industry leaders to strengthen the well-being of the College community and the residents of PEI, and ensure an inclusive workplace culture that provides equal opportunity for all. Ultimately, your focus will be on increasing the capacity of graduates to achieve success and contribute to the organizations and communities in which they work and live.

As the ideal candidate, you will have a minimum of a master’s degree or equivalent professional designation with a commitment to lifelong learning, and proven success in a senior leadership role within a complex, multiple stakeholder environment such as the post-secondary sector or the broader public/private sector with links to the education sector. Known for your ability to inspire, motivate and lead a strong management team, and building a cohesive, collegial and engaged work culture in which everyone feels included and valued, you bring experience in developing strong, sustained and productive partnerships that advance an organization’s growth, revenues/funds and overall success.

You are a proven leader of innovative change with expertise in developing, implementing, and delivering on long-term strategic plans and working effectively with government officials and industry, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and the ability to rally people around a shared vision and deliver results.
