Durham College is in search of an exceptional and experienced leader for the unique role of Dean, International Education. This role, reporting to the Associate Vice-President Academic (Enrolment and International Education), is a key position responsible for providing strategic and operational direction for a wide range of international education activities at Durham College. The incumbent will lead a team of dynamic professionals in the International Education office, overseeing recruitment, international mobility, partnerships and projects, student supports and success strategies, internationalization of the College, and the development of new revenue-generating opportunities. The Dean will oversee the ongoing operations of the department as well as the effective utilization of all available resources (physical, human, and financial) to ensure the College’s internationalization mandate and strategic direction are successfully understood and implemented. The incumbent will be accountable for overseeing the implementation, monitoring, evaluating, and continuous improvement of a broad range of interrelated, College-wide programming and services as they apply to international students, including their cultural, social, and academic well-being. The position will provide leadership in developing and administering College policies and procedures related to internationalization.

The Dean works with the AVP Academic (Enrolment and International Education), Academic Leadership Team, Office of the Registrar, Finance, and the international team to develop, implement, and evaluate international education and global engagement opportunities for incoming international students and all Durham College students and employees. These responsibilities relate directly to the goals and objectives outlined in the college’s Strategic, Academic, and Internationalization & Global Engagement Plans.

The Dean, International Education will act as an invaluable source of international market intelligence and will be accountable for expert advisory services to the College’s senior management teams on a wide range of planning issues related to the future direction of international education. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and implementing strategic enrolment management initiatives as they affect international business development.

The Dean represents the department as required on college committees, national and international organizations, and agencies and while attending conferences. The Dean is also a primary liaison with local, provincial, federal and international governments and government agencies in relation to Durham College international education.

The Dean is also a primary liaison with other post-secondary institutions, community-based organizations, and service providers in the Region to ensure that appropriate supports are in place for international students in the community.

The Dean will establish, develop, and lead the implementation of the department's objectives and ensure their alignment with College planning processes. The individual is also responsible for the department's financial health and risk management as per college policy as it relates to the department's activities.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related discipline such as International Education, Business Administration, or Adult Education. The incumbent will possess at least ten years of experience in a senior leadership capacity involving significant complexity and scope within an academic setting, including at least three yearsin the international department of a post-secondary institution. The incumbent will have a demonstrated track record of success in a leadership role within a complex, multi-stakeholder organization. The incumbent will excel in planning and organizing, leadership, team building, leading change management, delegation, and working with others. They will be committed to fostering creativity and innovation while driving to achieve goals. The incumbent will possess extensive knowledge and understanding of key international markets, international recruiting and admissions, and the ability to successfully navigate and manage social, cultural, political and economic diversity issues. Advanced intercultural competency and fluency are essential.

The Dean will have superior communication and presentation skills, the capacity to speak to diverse groups, and demonstrated interpersonal, mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. They will also have proven and progressive management experience as leaders and visionaries in international education.

International travel will be required.

Education

Master’s degree in a related discipline such as International Education, Business Administration, or Adult Education.
